I'm officially crazy.

I just spent $180 on a set of wingnuts... Granted they're super rare and super cool Harden alloy wingnuts that will perfectly match my Harden alloy sealed bearing hubs, but yeah... Don't tell my wife!

Sorry my friend, you don't get to decide whether you are crazy or not. Self-diagnosis is not legitimate.

What you did seems perfectly reasonable. But I won't tell your wife. You're welcome.

At least they are easier to hide than a whole bike.

Meh. Plenty of locals pump twice that into the slot machines before breakfast. You tell me who's crazy.

No, I don't think you're a wingnut.

You could have spent the $180 on booze, drugs or hookers. It's the lesser of the two (er...four) evils.
BTW, I do have a degree in Psychology. You're normal. Then again, I worked as a conveyor mechanic for the USPS for 33 years. So, what do I know.

You're sane enough; the guy who paid $248.50 for these is certifiable:

Bikes: 1967 Paramount; 1982-ish Ron Cooper; 1978 Eisentraut "A"; two mid-1960s Cinelli Speciale Corsas; and others in various stages of non-rideability.

I plunked down a fair chunk of change for a single Cinelli-specific Universal rear brake cable hanger so I could run Universal 68s. I didn't spend as much as you did overall, but I spent roughly double per piece. I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy, so my guess is you aren't either.

And no, I did not tell my wife.

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

You need doctors to be certifiable - I have a couple I cannot recommend.

I'm expecting the parallel thread of someone boasting "You'll never guess how much I sold a set of Harden wing nuts for!"

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

Those resemble the Huret wing nuts I put on my first Bianchi -- I always liked the look. Wingnuts do get mangled in a spill, though -- don't ask me how I know this.

Bikes: It's complicated.

Selling them for $248.50 is brilliant.

No comment on the buyer.

I was thinking maybe a one-up thread. I'm about $260 in these aluminum pedals. So worth it. I have 2 steel sets, never saw aluminum before. The new Speedplay nano is $450 and there are thousands of pairs, not just the one set I found.

I was poking fun at you by hinting that you might be the "certifiable" one in the equation.

If you got someone else to drop that kind of cheddar into your wallet, props to you :golfclap:

Bikes: Waterford Paramount Touring, Raleigh Sports 3-speeds in M23 & L23, Schwinn Cimarron oddball build, Marin Palisades Trail dropbar conversion, Nishiki Cresta GT, Jeunet mixte

Hang them on the tree. When your wife remarks on them, you tell her they're her present. Make sure there's also diamond earrings or a pearl necklace, too. Things will work out.

It was - and thanks for your bid!

What I loved was the short and sweet feedback from the winning bidder: "What I wanted"

When it comes right down to it, desire is what drives us in all endeavors, yeah?
