Help! Need a quill seatpost!
Hello friends! I haven’t posted here in quite a while…but the rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated!
You already knew what I was going to ask, but here goes anyway…
I’m rebuilding a Schwann 564 - an underrated bike in my opinion. Much to my dismay I discovered a crack in the top of the seatpost. Bummer.
Long story short, if anyone has a 27.2 quill seatpost they could let go of that doesn’t cost more than the bike is worth, send me a PM. (I assume my PMs still work - I couldn’t post a WTB in the vintage sales section.)

Someone recently was looking for one of these for a Peugeot that takes a quill post, and the member ended up finding a youtube tutorial on how to make one. I’ll edit my post with the link if I find it, or maybe someone else will beat me to it.

I think I saw that thread. I would like to come up with a proper one if possible… also quantities of unicorn blood and pixie dust would be helpful…
I also wondered if I could put some kind of space age epoxy in the crack and clamp it with some kind of seatpost or accessory clamp. After all, pretty much every manufacturer has glued their bikes at some point, right? Thoughts?

go to bike shop get a 28.6 seatpost clamp. Dissamble the the post, drill a small hole at the end of the crack slide the clamp on larger end down. Reassemble make shoure you have the cam the right way before you tighten the accorn nut

Ha! That's exactly what I was thinking about! I was just figuring out what clamp I need, thanks! (The hose clamp is going to be my short term fix.). Is that the right size for 27.2 ID?

The problem with the 564 is that there isn't enough seat tube above the top tube for one of those gizmos to clamp onto! It would work great on my Cannondales.

I used one of those clamps on my 594. There was enough material above the top tube for me, but the smooth weld prevented the clamp from going on all the way. I ended up filing a little material off the weld to make it work. It's not the prettiest solution, but it does work! I saved the bike from a scrap pile, so this certainly beats the alternative.
