Help with Seatpost Identification
Does anyone recognize this "no-name" post? There are no markings at all for brand, size, minimum insertion, or anything else. It appears to be Ti, with the mast tubing being 1mm or slightly over at the base of the post. I'll say that the two tube sections that are at right angle to one another are "welded" together but I'm not knowledgeable enough with all the various processes/terminology for that work to say for sure. The post tapers (narrows) starting approximately halfway up from the bottom, so that would provide an upper limit on the amount of post that is inserted in the seat tube and still have a proper clamping diameter. One of the two loose clamp pieces has a depression where the set screw seats, but I'm not certain if that was an original feature or if it was worn in from tightening the set screw at that location. I'm thinking that it came from tightening the screw in that one spot - otherwise you could only have one choice of saddle-tilt angle if that was intended to be the only place where the set screw would bottom out.
I got the post with a complete set of Dura-ace components for a 1998 Trek 5500, although I don't think that is a helpful piece of information since the 1998 catalog lists the original equipment seatpost as a Thomson Elite.
As an aside, this is the most difficult-to-install seatpost that I have ever worked with. I gave up after about 20 minutes on the first attempt, but then got it set up "fairly quickly" the next time I tried.
Thanks for the help.
