Setting up my Paramount to ride
I hate to clutter this bike up, but I wanted to add a water bottle cage. I figure on longer rides I can have one in the cage, one in a jersey pocket and another in the rack bag.

When I needed a 2nd or 3rd bottle on a bicycle with only one set of bottle bosses, I used cage adapters that mounted to the saddle rails. The only problem was that the older style had the bottle protruding above the top of the saddle, so you had to be caredul and swing your leg higher during mounts and dismounts. Some of the newer styles mitigate this issue with an extra hinge, allowing a flatter angle to the bottle(s).
I've been in triathlons where a competitor has struck a saddle mounted bottle during a transition zone mount, knocking himself over and, in the process, felling several triathletes like a row of dominoes!

I may change this setup. I don’t mind swinging my leg over, I just don’t want the bottle to shoot out on every bump.

they have adapters for adding water bottle cages to the handlebars as well and some clamps / adapters for adding a second water bottle cage to the seattube. i've tried a few setups on my older bikes (without bottle cage mounts on the seattube) and didn't love any of the options i tried. i recently modified some old toptube cable clamps to hold a bottle cage - i added some very thin electrical taoe underneath so it doesn't mar the frame paint. works well so far

I have a cross bike ( a real one with no bottle cage bosses) that I temporarily zip tied a bottle cage to about 3 years ago. For a racer style bike, barring the zip tie method I would use a saddle bag. Certain models of the Brooks Cambium have bag loops, so you still get to have a racer looking saddle (if it's important to you, it is to me lots of times) and ability to easily secure a saddle bag.

This was my experience on RAIN. Turning around to pick up bottles. I tried a small bungee, which worked find, until I wanted a drink. I'm not the guy who can ride no-handed while juggling. Not at all. [MENTION=203117]jamesdak[/MENTION] once showed a bag on one of his bikes that held two water bottles.

This is all I'll use.

I buy the 31.8 version and put a ShimaNO FD shim 28.6 to 31.8. That way I don't mar the tubing on my vintage steel bikes. They can also be added on the down tube facing toward the ground for a total of three bottles.
Carry that water Marine.

Pic below shows the adapter I believe T-Mar is referring to. As you can see, even a short bottle sticks up. I ended up leaning the bike over to mount.

I have. I did not like the feel of it on my back. Maybe just me being an old fart.
RE: Water consumption. The photo I shared was taken on a July 4. It was 95 degrees plus and humid. But what else is new. Photo was 25 miles in on a 50 miler. I had drained the two smaller bottles already and would empty the larger one well before the end of the ride. Fortunately there was a bottle filling station on the return.
