Mystery Nipples

Any idea what these are? Just took them out of a nice track wheel. They've got a long cylindrical end, presumably for increased spoke retention, and a built-in nipple washer! Never seen anything like them.

In related news, anyone need a 28h Wolber Profil 20 or Suntour Superbe front track hub?

Those are Assos, made to fit Assos rims. Do you know what rim you took them out of, could it be an Assos?

If I recall correctly, these were manufactured from aluminum and meant for Assos v-section, aero rims. The extra length provided more thread engagment to carry the load with the weaker, aluminum threads. Lengthing the head portion, as opposed to the barrel, allowed the extra length to be concealed within the rims, where it wasn't an aerodynamic penalty.

I took these out of a wolber profil 20 - not an assos! Googling the nipples brings up a recent thread here where a member needed some spares - I'll go see if mine match!

Hmmm.... What was the point of making that nipple out of aluminum if they would just add on that chunky (weighty) cylinder plug on it??

Please, someone post at least one photo of somebody with one of those little extra ones on their belly.
