Mystery Bianchi
Hello all, a cute Bianchi came my way recently but I'm struggling to positively confirm an ID, I hope you can help me...
My first guess is a Giro 1988, Formula Two tubing with Victory parts would make it a good match in the 1988 specs. But it has what appears to be C record shifters and brake levers and an ITM stem which kind of threw me off.
Sorry the pictures are not great, I took them just before heading to work. I haven't had time to do anything to it (not even fit the front wheel apparently) yet, but looking forward to get it back to life.
Any clues appreciated!

Looks like it could also fit the specs of the 1987 Nuovo Alloro: Columbus formula II, victory groupset, ITM stem, C-record levers, although the fork crowns are not engraved on mine.

The Canadian market models didn't always line up with those for the USA. The shift levers look like Campagnolo Syncro II, which were common to all Campagnolo groups. Victory brake levers were not used because they did not have an aero cable routing option.

I have to ask, does this bike look greenish in person or is it really blue. I ask because I have what I believe is a 1989 Giro that was an unusual shade of greenish blue in person but in most of the pictures I took of it it looked remarkably similar to the pics you've posted. I always assumed it was a repaint, but seeing another Bianchi in this color might change my mind.

Andy, it does have a greenish tint to it, a bit beetle shell like. For some reason i assumed that this colour scheme in Bianchis was reserved for lower end ones, obviously not.
Your frame looks great, i'm always a sucker for the chrome on the rear dropouts

I think this was the closest I was able to get in a picture, and I may have tweaked it in the software. On my monitor, this is what the color looked like.

The paint on mine was rough in a lot of places, and I really wanted some version of celeste. So after a LOT of pontification, I had this done.

The serial number of the OP's bicycle is from 1988. It's from so late in the year, that I would expect it to be a 1989 model. Further supporting 1989 is the lack of the round Campione del Mondo decal and the absence of any form of residue, outline or paint colouration in the region where it would normally be located.
Edit: Yes, that's a Syncro II shift lever, set in friction mode.To set it to index mode, you pull the serrated knob outwards and turn it counter-clockwise. There's a pretty strong return spring. If you pull it out and it won't turn, you haven't pulled it out far enough. When you release the serrated knob, it will nestle close to the lever body, indicating that it is in index mode.

Thanks T-Mar, as usual very enlightening and informative. Now to find the 1988-89 model, likely Canadian market... I'll keep digging.
Andy, the Celeste paint job looks amazing! Mine is in pretty good condition, so can't justify a repaint. Yet ;-)
