3rd Saturday Ride is this Saturday-New Route!

Third Saturday Ride is this Saturday at 9 a.m. We are trying a different, flatter ride with a coffee stop at the halfway point. We are starting at the Gold River Starbucks as always.

I expect to be there this time. I leave it to others to determine if that provides an incentive or a disincentive to others.

I will do the pre-ride at 8 from Guy West Bridge

I will be biking to the 9 a.m. ride start from the Guy West Bridge, next to Sacramento State University. I will leave promptly at 8 a.m. and take the American River Bike Trail to the start. Riders are welcome to join me. It adds a little under 15 miles each way to the ride.

I shall attempt to join you at the Guy West bridge @ Sac State at 8am. Don't wait for me, if I'm not there by 8, but where (or what end) of the bridge do you intend to occupy ? My plan, such as it is, will be to ride either this Argos

or possibly this Cinelli, depending on circumstances.

I think maybe up and back, dropping out at the turnaround at Tupelo (near my home), is probably about good for me. Assuming I motivate to the Guy West bridge at 8.

Huge turnout!

Wow! Biggest group yet on one of our rides. Our ranks swelled to about 40 at one point during the route and it sure got the attention of people on the side of the road. (Hopefully in a good way.)

Great group, including the Odoms who came up from San Diego and Mitch and Mike who came up from the Bay Area.

I got a few shots and we had a great group picture on the Sacramento State Campus near the Guy West Bridge.

Slight route modification to avoid triathlon

Route is essentially the same with the portion below Sunrise removed to avoid a scheduled triathlon. Here is the modified version. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40842956

Also, if you plan on biking to the start, be aware that there will be a closure on the ARBT below Sunrise so you will have to adjust your route.

The ride goes on, but I will not be there. I have to attend a memorial service on Saturday. A number of the veterans have signed up so the ride will be in good hands. They will be using the modified route to avoid the triathlon.

Nice turnout for today’s ride considering the looming heat. Thanks to Mark for stepping in and keeping the group in line (it is a rowdy bunch). Nice to meet Ralph, Grace and Rob.

A good turnout today, despite the heat. And, was great to meet Robvolz , who got the award for furthest distance traveled.

And, I'm really digging the Champion Team, cmsanfor!

I don't know how y'all do this on the 100+ heat.

This was a great group. Notice all have smiles? I was suffering.

Granted, I did leave Santa Cruz at 3 to make the ride. And, maybe wearing a vintage wool jersey was not the best choice.

I arrived at 8:05 and I knew everyone wanted to leave soon to beat the heat. In my haste, I didn't pack a spare or a pump.

Of course, I blew a sew-up. Michael was kind enough to loan me a spare. Of course his own tire blew later, but taught him the "Stan's" trick and got him back going.

In other words, I CAN"T WAIT TO RIDE WITH THIS GROUP AGAIN!!

Thanks all.

Hey Rob! Great having you along for the ride and seeing your bikes in person. Glad you survived the trip! Get some sleep. Things are much nicer here in October if the smoke's not too bad.
