If you did some careful measuring to account for the arms not gong on as far you could probably make a 93 work on a JIS, though I'd be wary that the notoriously soft Stronglight aluminum would deform and things would loosen over time. Of course, you could keep tightening the bolts, but that would mean the arms would slowly be moving in.... I suspect there must be a thread here all about it....

Also check how the crank from the Motobecane fits on the VO BB. I'd been under the impression that ISO & JIS were 'close enough' that it wouldn't matter, particularly putting and ISO crank on a JIS spindle, but....no. My Stronglight 93 does not want to seat on the VO BB in an acceptable manner- the arms are a good 5mm further out on each side than they ought to be...

I thought they were mostly compatible too, but I'm not keeping the Stronglight on that bike, at least for now. I have a Sugino VP triple going on it. My wife asked me to move her Tiagra 9x3 drivetrain that's currently on a Lotus Eclair over to the Moto but there's no way that crankset and BB is going on it.

In all seriousness I’m sorry to swap out the original components but what’s foremost is that Mrs. ascherer really likes this frame and wants it to suit her needs. We’ve spent the last 12 years discovering and dialing in her setup and that makes all the difference in her comfort and confidence. It’s cool that she is distinguishing the components from the frame and ride qualities compared to her Lotus. I’ve pondered triplizing the Stronglight. I have one on a PX-10 that I bought from Jon Vara and I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with a brifter. But for now I’ll go with the VP, it’s a classic 5-arm crank.
