Silver rims with rim brake tracks
Hi,
is it just me, or is it virtually impossible to find rims (not wheelsets) in silver for use with rim brakes? Esp deep or semi-deep section rims seem to be impossible to come by.
Anyone has the same problem? If not, kindly reccomend a retailer (preferably in Europe) who sells these.

The 36h silver option is in stock.
I have multiple sets of wheels with this rim in black with 28, 32, and 36h- its quite good. 25mm deep.
Velocity Dyad comes in silver too.
Velocity Deep V is 30mm and thats probably close to the deepest you will find for an aluminum rim with brake track.

Pacenti makes some nice silver rims. Velocity A23's and Quill rims are available in both polished and silver anodized.

Not deep, & not 'high end', but I think the polished Sun M13-II rims build up nicely and look great (especially if you peel off the ugly sticker...) on a classic/vintage ride for a hard-to-beat price*.
*best I've found was from Cason City Bike Shop. They were $25 or so for a while, but now showing at $35.

There's a set of 24H Sun Venus (25mm height) on Ebay right now. Tremendous rim.

Strength and aerodynamics are the main benefits. There are drawbacks too. At some point deep rims become heavy, especially when made of aluminum. Crosswinds can be nasty with deep wheels, especially a deep front wheel.
If I've got a frame with 25.4/28.6 tubing and a threaded 1" steerer I'll stick with box section rims or rims less than 30mm deep if possible.

When I went from a rim-brake 13mm box rim to 25mm (welded and machined), I experienced far fewer loose spoke (truing) and risk of "tacoing" the rim on abrupt application on down-hills. Also, higher rims tend to be newer (although still velo) than traditional box rims, so not only the height makes them stronger and stiffer, but the overall design and material (better aluminum).
I consider anything 25mm rim height and up to be semi-deep. In my opinion, they are definitely in a different classification than the 13-19mm. I use DTSwiss 14g competition, single-butted, for a bullet-proof wheel.

Positron400 FWIW the whole brake track thing started because the hard anodized darker rims becoming ever more popular in the late ‘80s didn’t break quite as well as their silver counterparts until the anodizing wore off. The uneven wear of the anodizing was very unpopular and eventually the manufacturers started the machining to resolve these issues. There was no real reason, other than aesthetics, to machine the silver ones.
