Is the OP saying that he found that bike in a dumpster?

ehcoplex 02-01-23 08:53 AM

A dumpster!? Jeepers, I wish I had trash of that caliber near me!

3speedslow 02-01-23 09:56 AM

Pics of the dumpster or it didn’t happen!

curbtender 02-01-23 10:27 AM

I'm guessing these are the after pictures. Sweet bike.

squirtdad 02-01-23 10:34 AM

evwxxx 02-01-23 10:46 AM

Seriously. I have a 1978 model - I am the original owner and I have babied it, and it still doesn't look that good.

These bikes were the last of the oversquare top tubes. I have one. Nice bike, Columbus transfers but built with some 753.

the French are liberal with the tubing declarations. Maybe, use up what they had after the falling out with Reynolds?

What's the story? Beautiful bike...

reroll 02-01-23 12:30 PM

Congratulations! Very nice find!

Dumpster finds, they do happen, I have one, a Japanese-made 1983 Puch Odyssey, all there, hardly worn original IRC tires, no accident damage, no corrosion or rust, paint in almost like-new condition, and mechanically near perfect.

The apartments here have a community dumpster with two big flip-open lids. I went to the dumpster to drop off a bag of rubbish, flipped open its lid, there was this bike laid out on top of everything else in the bin, gave it a quick look-over and then could not say no to lifting it out and rolling it back and into my apartment where it remains today.

Why can't I find these bloody dumpsters!!!

:(:mad::eek:

Q: Is lust still a sin?

I tend to agree.

Gorgeous bike, beautifully built and in great condition all around. This rivals the Alex Singer dumpster find of a few months back….

Says saved from the dumpster. May have been a do you want it or I'm going to throw it away scenario. Still, who would clean it before they threw it away?

georges1 02-01-23 03:59 PM

Very nice motobecane:thumb: thanks for sharing

canklecat 02-01-23 04:11 PM

Pretty sure tossing that bike in the trash is a crime in some states. They have adoption drop-offs at fire stations and bike co-ops for orphans.

Also, this ain't r3dd!t and there's no extra credit for karma farming with bike pr0n. :innocent:

Also also... fork's bent.

Roypercy 02-01-23 04:24 PM

Sufferin' succotash! Nobody throws out anything that good in New York...

Beautiful bike.

jdawginsc 02-01-23 06:39 PM

Maybe stolen and ditched in a dumpster?

But a beautiful, upper-level Motobécane? Whaaa??

Guess they better lube the bearings then...I got a call on the radio that the recycling manager wanted to see me before I went home. A lady had brought by a Bridgestone Mile 112 and said she didn't want it going in the garbage. I took care of that.

jonwvara 02-01-23 08:21 PM

OP, are you out there? What gives?

Straightblock 02-01-23 10:59 PM

Apparently it's not fresh from the dumpster. The OP posted this almost 2 years ago:

^ From the link it appears that lucky find was from two years ago. Regardless... dang!

Anyways, my find story isn't quite as exciting but was found in a massive hoard mess August '22. Ironic its sort of a cousin to the OPs bike. Similar color, possibly same age and made in the same factory. Motoconfort Super Champion with Reynolds 531. Not many stateside.

Found as a single speed, garbage wheelset, crank, bottom bracket, just about everything junk, including a girvin flex stem, straight bar, big butt saddle with two inch thick foam, rusted solid chain.

Stripped, cleaned and wax, tossed almost all the parts as it was found, with exception to the Stronglight headset. Didn't go nutz chasing for components and just went simple built with decent Japanese goods- SR triple crankset, Sugino bottom bracket, SR La prade seatpost, SR forged stem, SR fancy marked bar, Regal saddle, ARX shift group. Had to retain some French so now has CLB brakeset (incl. CLB blue hoods) Miche hubs, Miche pedals, Mavic 700c clinchers, fresh cables, pads Tressostar wrap, Velox. That's a wrap. Ciao
