My wife had a drop bar red Raleigh Mixte. I bought it 50 years ago. Wished we had kept it, but she started riding a Dicks Sporting Goods Diamondback 20 years ago,
In 2022, I found this on Facebook Marketplace,

Picked up this tall one last Fall. Decals say Record Ace.

This is Mrs. ascherer's mixte. 1975 Grand Jubile with 531 frame, Nervex Pro lugs, 9-speed drivetrain, dynamo lighting. It's pretty light, and now it has a triple crankset, but I don't have an updated photo.

Bought a Mixte for myself that was already out-fitted with a flat bar.
The lady who sold it to me also gave me the original drop-bars.
It's a japan built Raleigh branding with a 21" frame, which is the biggest I've seen in person.
From a comfort stand-point, the flat bars win over the drops.
I tried with the original drops, and found my weight too far forward.
It's currently set up with the flat bars on a pretty ugly adjustable quill stem and 28mm Pro-tite Pasela tires on the original 27-1/4" aluminum rims.
Cranks are a cheapie aluminum square taper set as well, and the bike left the factory as a 2 X 6.
I bought it for a grocery getter, and put a pletscher copy rear rack on it.
It's a very comfortable ride, and not that much slower than my Blue Rocket Motobecane Super Sprint.
Kalin makes a short reach 210mm tall stem that is reasonably priced, if she gets into over-reach issues with the drop bars.

BTW, I set Mrs. ascherer up with flat bars once. Didn’t make it to the end of the driveway. She’s a traditionalist.

I cleaned up an early 80s AD for my sister. It is a lower level one but seemed nicely made with decent components. She has a 90s Schwinn “grandma” bike but wanted something for more aggressive exercise. This suited her just fine. I added the half toe clips and liked them so much that I have them on 3 of my bikes now.

Motobecane Mixte

Here is my wife's 1975 Motobecane Grand Jubile mixte (the red/black one). It's a really neat bike with Reynolds 531 frame, Nervex lugs and Huret Jubilee long cage read derailleur. I have a men's Grand Jubile model to match. The silver/black one is a previous one that she had but we sold it because it was too big for her ... she's 4'11'. It was also a 1975 model.

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes.
Here are ours
First my 75 Moto Gand Jubile and my wife's 81 Centurion LeMans, on a market run,

This one looks like a Mixte, but is actually a "Sport" I think (upper single tube head tube to seat tube), 82 Super Sport,

Here's a couple of Paramount's, 40's and 70's, these are cool enough even being stepthrough's and a flat bar.
I would encourage you to go ahead and get a solid one that you can find for a place holder if nothing else, maybe try and steer your SO to the cool factor, history, etc that many have with or without drop bars.
The other option as many others here will confirm is to convert one to drop bars, many here do it with our eyes closed and would be happy to help you along the way if you want.
And welcome aboard, glad you found us, you're in the right place.

And here's another of ours and a great thread.
A thread for uncommon and above average mixtes and step throughs!

What I was implying with the post and wanted to say was how many of us have the vast collection of "P"'s that you do.........Is that "P" envy?

Maybe, I don't have as many as I would like and half of them are not well but are what they are and no more should be joining.
There will be one more of the horde that gets done but it won't be as well as it could be but it will be pretty cool if it gets done.
I have far less resources than I used to so we'll see.

The mixte drop bar population was reduced by one this summer. I kept the drop bars on the mixte I built for my wife. They made it through the first couple of rides at which point she requested a more upright position. Off they came!

My daughter has a Fuji Sagres that she rarely rides. I found it at a Goodwill for $15 several years ago.

Maybe the large basket itself has the flex to give you the sway. Milk crates don't flex much.
Good luck!
