I think I found a Schwinner

Ever since some dirt bag got mine I've been searching for a Curcuit in red with the Sante group. On the rare chance one comes up they are silly money. Searching Craigs List the other day I came across an add for a nice looking racer that had been converted to a single speed. I picked it up for $75 and it came with most of the origional gearset etc that had been removed. It took a week to source shifters, front derailleur and (all Shimano Tri coleur 600 ) chain ring and rear cassette from Ebay and it all came together nicely. From what I've found out it's an 86/87? Super Sport in Candy red and white i terrific condition. Colombus Tenax frame. The seat says Specialiazed Test Saddle and the head stock Rirtchey WCS, non standard bars with Tektro brake levers. My size it's a rocket ship!! I love this bike and the fact it cost me less than$120 all in has almost made me forget about my Curcuit quest. What do you folks think ? I really want the Sante group set but do you think I should stop searching and just enjoy this beauty ? Or should I sell it for $450(?) and putthe profit in the Cucuit fund?

Nice find. Can you ride this while still looking for the dream bike? If you find it, then you can sell this one.

Oh…your rear derailleur cable housing is too short and possibly jacked up (and the cable itself should be replaced), and the front derailleur seems WAY too high.

Curcuit fund

Thanks for the input new cable housing on the way, Front Derailleur is maxed out on limit screws yet wont move the chain over unless I manually move it the last couple of mm only to have the tension spring pull it back. Tried most of the solutions I can find including taking grips to the cage, any ideas or should I find an FD with a different size cage?
As for riding and waiting, I would kick myself if a Curcuit came up and there were no $ in the fund. BTW what is a reasonable price, post boom, for a Sante Circuit? Prices seem to be hitting bottom as can be seen by this Bianchi I picked up for $50 and so far am $30 into my 1983 Specialissima L'Eroica Replica project. No idea what it was origionally but it's not heavy and chrome under the paint.
thanks again

It’s a tough dilemma. I’m not sure what Circuits are going for. But I do get the dream bike thing. Took me almost 20 years of eBay searching to spec my bike the way I wanted it. But it was fun!

The frame of this bike looks in really good condition. I think you can have a really good bike if you want. Maybe spec it with Sante a part at a time?

I can’t tell for sure, but the FD may be bent. The outer cage should clear the big ring by only a millimeter or two (I prefer one).

Bikes: 1991 Centurion Oxygen, 1997 Centurion Invincible, 1995+- Fondriest Wind, 1982 Grand Master Nissan Pro 2000, 1992 Olmo Racing (The racing part of the name HAS to be a joke).

As smd4 have already said, that fd is WAY too far from the chainrings. That means that it will have to move more to shift the chain. It should shift far better if moved closer to the chainrings (And thus not be maxed out).
Also the big chainring is positioned incorrectly. The "thing" sticking out from the chainring, that is positioned under the fd, should be behind the pedalarm. It is there to prevent the chain from getting stuck between the chainring and the pedalarm, if you overshift. So the chainring should be rotated 144 degrees (Thats two holes) clockwise.
Should you sell this one, to be able to buy the dreambike?. Well the correct answer is both yes and no. Yes as the bike with the Sante group is your dream. But in my opinion no, as I personally think that the white Sante group is just plain ugly. And for some reason any Sante in good condition is insanely expensive. The Tricolor stuff is plentiful and for that reason often cheap. And there is NO reason to prefer Santo to Tricolor, apart from the visuals. Some parts, such as the rd and the brakes are slightly lighter than the Tricolor parts, but for instance the Sante crankset is heavier that the Tricolor counterpart. If I were offered a mint Sante group in exchange for one of my Tricolor groupsets, I would refuse the offer.
And finally, if you think it´s a rocketship with Gatorskin tyres, then you´ll absolutely love it if you get some fast tyres for it.

My usual fix for a front derailer bent just like that is to hook something on the rear bolt crossover of the cage and pull upward.

This seems to rotate the cage clockwise so as to follow the outer diameter of the chainring exactly. Then and only then can it shift right while controlling the chain atop the chainring teeth.

The Supersport should perform just about the same as the Circuit. The geometry is the same, 73x74 degrees.

Know that the Circuit used a 7s Uniglide cassette that uses a threaded smallest cog no longer produced.
The six largest cogs of Hyperglide 7s cassette can be used on the Sante 7s freehub if the cogs are modified slightly.
Such precious threaded UG smallest cogs can be restored if they perhaps wear to the point of skipping when a new chain is fitted, so do not discard one. A later-model freehub body can be used in the future but would need to be sourced from a 64xx Hyperglide 7s hub, together with the driveside axle fittings.

I had a Circuit, I ended up selling to some dude fairly low, he bought that and a Zeus. I think the circuit was Suntour equipped, I don't recall. I was happy to clear out the space.

There is a Fuji in the eBay/Craigslist thread with Sante with a facilitator already.
