1986 Schwinn Cimmaron 22" frame - missing fork
I picked up nice frame-only (1986 Schwinn Cimmaron 22" Seafoam green) without a fork over a year ago. Cool looking frame, decals all good, and no dings/rust.
The original fork per pics I've seen is a unicrown w/ canti's and low-rider mounts, and some kind of lugged crown.
I thought I could find a replacement vintage unicrown threaded fork and if black, it would look be ok. The problem is the frame headtube is almost 6 3/4'" (168 mm), so the original fork had long steerer tube (about 8-9"). No luck at local bike collective,or searching for donor bike. I've considered ordering a new fork, but most have straight legs and I do not want that. I have replaced forks on other bikes by threading and cutting steerer tube done to fit (at local bike collective).
I'm open to suggestions.
What do you think about using a regular road bike fork???? I know it will detract from the looks, and may not be as strong as a unicrown, but will it work. I'm going to sell the bike after I get this last missing part.

Just find something with a long enough steerer, the clearance you want for a tire and with the dropouts positioned where you want them. Whether or not it's unicrown... meh. Not like its on a tandem, or that you'll be toting full kegs of beer on a porteur rack. Just about any steel fork should be strong enough.

Good points. I do like the looks of other vintage mid-80s mtn frames with the standard forks. But I've heard unicrowns are stronger (not that I need it)...
