GIOS Compact
I have a frame. I bought it a long time ago, seems like. It needs to be brought back to the original color scheme (gios blue). Needs new replacement dropouts. It is SLX. Is there a way to tell (does anyone know) what the vintage may be?
I also have some 40th anniversary GIOS Compact decals. I know that these went on an SLX bike - does anyone know when GIOS had their 40th? Is it completely immoral to sticker this frame as a 40th anniversary bike, even if it is the right year?

Does it have the bolt on drop outs? or are you referring to brazed in ends? Perhaps interrogate the Gios site, I think the 40th was approx. 1988.... have a '74 Gios Record full panto for the wife, was looking at a frame on ebay my size just recently... frame & fork in reasonably nice shape went for almost a grand! Ouch!

Records and Super Records are the coolest Gios, IMHO, of course. This bike has adjustable dropouts, they're rusty and need replacement. I found a source (EXCEL) but haven't gotten off my butt to order any yet. I don't have any idea about the age...except that it is probably pre '90 as the tubing is SLX...so it may be that it is an '88 - that is the 40th anniversary as I gleaned from the website. No serial number information that I could find, though. For that matter, the paint is way too thick to find a serial number on the bike, either.
