haven't gone to look at this old three speed but I'm thinking that's to the point of no return. Is that salvageable? Replaceable?

Here's the ad if anyone cares to look.

Bikes: Road ready: 1993 Koga Miyata City Liner Touring Hybrid, 1989 Centurion Sport DLX, "I Blame GP" Bridgestone CB-1. Projects: Yea, I got a problem....

I would condemn the fork out of hand. The rest of the bike looks ok, so replacing the fork would work, but that would be a heroic effort for a low end bike like this. Unless you plan on colleting low-end bikes like this, then its a smart investment...

MY HUFFY!!!!!

Oh, wait. Whew. That was a bad dream!

What size is the frame? If you are really attached to it, and it is a 'medium', I have a fork I can send you. Heck, I could even paint it white before I send it out!

EDIT: looks to be a medium. We could get it up and running. Your call.

That is a VERY generous offer. There are some really fine people on this board. I think I'll just move on. I don't even own a bike stand and if the forks are that bad I'm guessing theres more badness I don't even know about.

It's all badness with the bikes at this end of the bell curve, but that's part of the headache charm.

That's not even a Columbia Sports, which is a knockoff of a Raleigh Sports. It's like a knockoff of a Columbia Sports, which means it's a knockoff of a knockoff. That's like a xerox of a xerox. They should be paying you to take it. The Sturmey hub might be the only part on that bike that has positive value.

Edit: wait that's not even a Sturmey hub. The horror.

Exactly!

Even this frame is salvageable if you're willing to replace enough tubes.

Of course, it debatable whether that's a worthwhile project to undertake for a Reynolds 753 Eddy Merckx. For a Murray All Pro...well, it could be fun.

It reminds me of a recipe for Kauai Wild Chicken Stew that gugie shared with me: "Put the chicken in a pot of boiling water with spices and lava rocks. Simmer for several hours. Discard the chicken. Eat the rocks." Restoring this bike would be a bit like that.
