Latest Paramount find

In lieu of releasing the Merz Kraken right away.

Track frame that I need like a hole in my head, Paramount #8.

115th frame, February 1974

A bit rough, some chrome loss/peeling but sound, no dents, dings or kinks.

Fork is drilled, good Campy HS, HB and SP binder.

Bonus cool, free banner that was included when it got here, ok deal, closeish enough to my size, good BB threads, 24in. CTT, all good.

Nice frame. My has the opposite problems. Chrome is gorgeous, but has a huge dent and a crack

Yep, many of these have at least a TT ding from the bars, many a track frame led a hard life and I think most Paramount's live to tell the tale of a brutal existence for being up to the task as many were.

Yep and you'll want to keep your eyes averted, this will be a run what ya brung build, not going to any great lengths aside from maybe a proper track crank if I can find one for an ok deal.

Now that Alpenrose is gone it makes very little sense to go down this rabbit hole for me.

When did any of us start acquiring bikes based on need? This forum would be pretty dull if that were true.

Agreed, and a track frame is a whole other level of this and we don't have a Velodrome anymore so.....

Was this the one out of AZ? Not a bad deal, in my opinion. Original paint. I paid less for mine, but after frame repair and PC this would have been cheaper. Was considering it, but I don't need another track bike at all. Looks awesome, and love the color. I'm in the process of building mine with a hodgepodge of period appropriate and modern parts, but can't wait to get some serious miles on mine! Enjoy.

Tx, yep, the one from AZ, and I got it for much less than the ask. I was hoping the chrome would clean up well and it won't so we'll see.

I'm going to do somewhat the same, no big budget on this, glad it came with what it did in good shape and I have a couple of steel stems, Campy SP and Brooks Pro.

With Alpenrose velodrome gone it won't get ridden a lot.

These were speced with Strada.

https://waterfordbikes.com/SchwinnCa...0/1975_06.html

I've seen quite a few of these with the split paint at the cap, never seen any get worse than this so we'll see.

Funny you mentioned this, Ron Boi who did the repair on my frame (also did repairs for Schwinn Paramount division, when they were transitioning to Wisconsin) also mentioned that was an area known to have issues on Paramount's of the era. Mine was fine, perhaps repaired prior to previous refinishing as mine was not original paint. He too, felt they were almost always cosmetic.

I actually have seen this on other frames too. I saw a Paramount track in Ashland OR at a shop that did this after being repainted, weird.

For a second there I thought you were saying this was the 115th frame in your collection. But who's counting....
