I own a boxed-up mint 200Sci frameset with EMS fork, as well as a 60k mile well-abused version (now stripped of parts).
Such a superb ride way back then, but perhaps now surpassed by lighter and stiffer CF framesets.
Some day, I will build up that 90's Kestrel with NOS Dura Ace 9sp and hang it in my mancave. lol

Very interesting article, thanks for sharing Nowadays the material used in carbon fiber is Toray back then it was T700 and T900, this bike inspired the Trek OCLV. James Dak has a red Kestrel with campy groupset.

I can remember thinking about 16 years ago what a cool novelty that my new-to-me 4000 would be on our local training rides.

Years later, I'm seeing it as being more like historically significant, alongside my other few early-production bikes of the 80's.

This one turned up as part of a matching two-bike purchase. It has 126mm rear spacing but it's mate is a smaller size so probably second-year production at the earliest.
A big hole in the bb shell allows for the removal of rubber bladders, while later production (without the hole) used very thin plastic bladders that were left in place after curing under prerssure.
