Project "Green Machine"...

Some members might know that I get lots of stuff from the local Dump, more formally called the Landfill Site. Anyway, lots and lots and lots of vintage bikes, mostly old road bikes, have come my way, over the years. But this is the first plastic machine, green in color and found by my grandson and me a half hour, or so, ago...

The bike/trike/toy is in dirty, faded condition and, sadly, sports a damaged rear wheel. I hope to figure out how to repaid such damage, but ???

Bikes: Hi-Ten bike boomers, a Trek Domane and some projects

I remember the TV commercials for Green Machines and Big Wheels during Saturday morning cartoons. From what the commercials showed, I imagine those rear wheels were the first part of the Green Machine to wear out.

It's a Huffy!!! AdventureManCO will certainly know how to fix it--- or at the least figure out how to swap the wheel for one laced to a Campagnolo high flange hub.

Funny thing is my first thought was to pirate the wheels from a BMX that I found at the dump last year...

and install them on The Green Machine, however...

The Green Machine's claim to fame is its ability to skid and fish tail when being ridden. The wide hard plastic wheels positively increase the skid and fish tail tendencies. So, gotta find a wheel, or, perhaps...

Screw/glue a piece of conveyor belt to each and hope for the best. Either that or get back to restoring my Marinoni "Special"...

Probably going to go with the Green Thing, since my youngest grandson is involved now.

They guys that make drift trikes often use green sewer pipe for the rear wheels. The fact that the front wheel is like a unicycle wheel endears it to some tinkerers too.

These as you said, Randy, these Green Machines are made to be drift trikes or feel like drift trikes even on level ground going only moderate speeds.

Tape it up and shoot in some expanding foam?

Put these two together and you have a good repair. They use slices of pipe cut at the width of the wheel as covers since the back wheels are "consumable". Glue/tape/expanding foam the existing damaged wheel and then find pipe with correct inner dimension to slide over the whole thing (both sides)
That is probably a newer model, but the original Green Machine might well be considered C&V

You MUST put a full Super Record gruppo on this. Probably won't be able to find tubulars to fit though.

This thing is silly as is. Uncomfortable to pedal and thus sustaining satisfactory oversteer just doesn't reach the level that a kid imagines when they first see this thing. Whatever exercise they could get from it is wasted when they quickly abandon it (exercise-as-fun is what you get from a normal bike).

However...put a 36V e-bike motor up front, and it'll make all the sense in the world.

What on earth are you saying? Nothing less than first-gen C-Record. With Deltas.

Come to think of it, it might be a good use of the Deltas.

Bikes: Yes

I had one of those! When I saw the title of the thread I was thinking I'd be disappointed and it would just be a green bike, but no, this is the real deal!
