How to set brake pads on angled rims?
Having not paid enough attention to how the brake pads were set before I tore the bicycle down, I find myself a bit perplexed when trying to reassemble things with new pads. This is a bicycle with Universal 61 brakes with a steel rim that is angled. I bought some Kool-stop continental pads, but with a flat pad against an angled rim, that didn't seem too useful. Next, I tried a pair of kool-stop pads normally used with V-brakes, that allowed some tilting of the pads, but not enough to meet the angle of the rim.
Am I missing the point? What's the basic idea with setting brake pads with an angled rim?
Thanks

Set the pads to ensure they are "toe-in". Then test them to ensure they work and go for a ride. Let Mother Nature do the rest.

The original brake pads were beveled to match that angle. A set of Kool Stop continentals could be cut/filed to match those rims.

Old school way was to just bend pad brackets just slightly while using the old flat pads.

With those calipers and basic pads, just pop um on at rim height and rotate so they don't hit the tire and you are done. They will wear/stop just fine.
Dont adjust the calipers, those are cast made and will be brittle, could lead to an unsafe situation.
