...honest ? What's honest ? I think people are trying to give their opinions as best they can. Opinions differ a lot on this stuff, and as you said, nobody is looking at it the same way you are. The nicest mixte frames I've seen were made from Reynolds frame tubing, but they are a distinct minority. There are even a couple of Italian makers who turned out high quality mixte's. Usually referenced as Bicicleta dama. There might be some pictures in that other thread that got linked. They don't show up very often.

Someone donated one of the 531 mixte bikes to our co-op here once. But the majority of them I've seen were straight gauge Hi Ten steel.

thanks for that link. made the mistake of reading the sticky - another spiral into the world of internet forums. i'm sure model specific threads will be more helpful from a buyer's perspective. no flipper will i ever be.

Always consider the source when you get info. Sometimes people mean well, and take their best guess. There was one guy here who, I SWEAR, had to purposely suggest doing exactly the opposite of what would be correct.
