Haha woah there, I don't know about that, but thanks. Here's a front view with added sunshine just for you

The Mario Martini paint job is quite something, if you want to see close-ups of all the frame details and pantographed kit, there's more pics here: https://www.pedalroom.com/bike/somec-columbus-max-47706

So beautiful Do you have a suitably intense kit to wear while you ride it?

Length, obviously.

Don’t be obtuse. It doesn’t suit you. C&V isn’t just about how old a bike is or how much chrome or massive flat aluminum plates it has. I consider my bike C&V, but it has ceramic bearings, compressionless cables and titanium fasteners. It’s tuned to a very high degree. So yes, “performance,” however you prefer to define it, can certainly be a part of the C&V ethos.

No, it can't. At least in an absolute manner. If you truly want performance, you do not have a C&V bike. A modern bike is lighter, more aero, shifts faster, has more gear choices and stops better. Are your ceramic bearings and compressionless housing C&V?

And no, modern components on an old steel frame is not C&V nor a part of and ethos. It's a preference.

And yet I've had a thread running on here for years now showing that the performance of all my bikes is actually pretty similar under a mere mortal bike rider like me. No real advantage to new bikes, C.F. 2x gears, etc. Heck just this morning I opened up the 41 year old Krapf bike running a 6 speed friction DT shifting on a segment I've literally ridden easily a thousand times amongst all my bikes. The Krapf set a PR on that segment for me despite running into a bit of a headwind. Yeah.....no performance....

But but... just imagine how much lower your pErfoRmaNce would be with Deltas on that rig instead... nothing short of Dura Ace will unleash your true 19.2 mph average

I doubt there are many people that wouldn’t see my Cinelli as anything other than C&V. Maybe just you.

I'm not going to stop you from enjoying going out, throwing down the hammer, and achieving a PR. If that floats your boat, more power to you. But your xcl sheet documenting every ride you have ever taken is singular. No one cares about it except you, not even your partner cares. Sure, they may humor you and say "Well, that was a good day honey." But it is nonetheless irrelevant, which is exactly what I wrote that caused you and sm4 to respond to me.

Its relative. Always has been, always will be. And unless you are putting food on the table racing bikes, it is largely irrelevant.

Of course it is.

Why you think the two are mutually exclusive is laughable.

I never said I did.

The Cinelli is definitely a high performance C&V bike.

I get it. I’m the same with wine. Wouldn’t know a good wine if it bit me.

You should get together with Atlas Shrugged. I’m sure you both would have a lot to talk about.

LOL, right!

Although....I did have to use a Dura Ace FD on this. Sooooo.....there just has to be a 19 mph avg on this one just waiting to bust out!

Now you are just being mean.

My point is, use Deltas, use long reach single-pivot flimsy calipers, use dual pivot, use discs. Use whatever floats your boat, because for us mere mortals, it really doesn't make much difference. A young Gino Bartali on his first team bike in 1934 will drop the likes of us, at any age, on whatever "performance" bike we choose. I'm under no illusions on how much I suck and all the money in the world won't improve it to a real level of performance. So when Atlas or any other dimwit says not to use Delta because the performance sucks, they are living in a fantasy.

You’re thinking about this the wrong way. I’m not trying to win any race. I’m trying to experience the highest quality I can (for the era that interests me).

I drive a Toyota Corolla. An exceedingly boring and dull car. A CSO, to borrow a term. I’ll never get to drive a Ferrari. But with my bike, I get to experience an actual high performance racing machine, circa 1998. Like my boss’s 1972 Pantera. Still the highest performance car I’ve ever experienced. And it’s over 50 years old.

Why do people own Rolexes when $40 Timexes do the exact same thing?

Actually my iPhone keeps better time than either.

I bet delta brakes work fine. Usual caveats, cleaned, lubed, adjusted properly, fresh pads, blah blah.

They look weird, but whatever.

Frank Berto wrote that pretty much every other brake at the time worked better.
