Peugeot Serial Number Help

Hi everyone,

I purchased a Peugeot Prestige today, the one with 708 tubing and was hoping for some assistance with the serial number to gain a bit more knowledge.

The BB engraving reads Y2C31338 and the barcode on the downtube is 550095385318 and a 2 at right angle to this.

Any historic info would be great.

Thanks

Karl

Bikes: 1981 Raleigh GP, 1985 Norco Bush Pilot, . . .

OP's album: https://www.bikeforums.net/g/album/31130932

From the frame serial number:

Y = factory at Romilly-sur-Seine
2 = 1992 year of frame manufacture
C3 is probably 03 = manufacture month of March

The barcode number is the bicycle serial number. the first 3 digits have a significance but I do not know what that is.

The barcode label also has information about the frame model, country for which the bicycle was intended, colour, and more.

Hi.

So it's a CF 800P C frame. I can't find any literature on it from Bike Boom brochures. Nearest match is the CF 708P C. Looks to be same spec different paint job.

Anyone with shed further light??

I have the same bike than you but in size 57sm with a time carbon fork and I will upgrade it to dura ace 7800. The 708 was a high quality tubing produced during a small period of time, it was designed for heavy riders and to be used in criteriums. The chromed stays can get oxidized with time.It was one year model only so very rare

Hi. Did you buy yours as a frame set or did these originally come as a full build?

Can you confirm the model information on the downtube barcode, the top set of numbers as mine are very hard to read. I think it's CF800PC followed by more to do with sizing and assume paint colour. Be good to compare.

Thanks for the info.

Mine was a frameset baught back in1996 and because of bad accident during a road bike racing competition I had to change the fork. My serial number is Y203C838, same year and same month of build than yours, wasn't easy to read as well.I will have a pair of lighter wheels built for it.

The CF708 was a model for France and is found in the 1992 Peugeot catalogue for France.

I have seen the Prestige model with Reynolds 708 in Great Britain. The barcode label has CR800 as the model designation.

Is your Prestige designated for the Great Britain market?

Does the barcode have CF800 or CR800?

Thanks Hummer,

The paint spray from the faded effect is partially over the barcode so hard to read but definitely is C (R or F) 800 and I think the British version.
