anyway, building a nice townie bike with a Bob Jackson frame. The numbers are 205 05.

It seems BJ is no longer making bikes, so suggestions to email them will go no where.

4680 is about 1963, 9359 is early 1973, 10046 early 70’s, 108x5 1975, 10812 March 1975, 11042 is 1974, 12470 is 1977, 15824 is June 1982, 16052 is 1982 or 83, 18154 is a Bob Jackson 753 Reynolds Golden Jubilee 1935-1985 Edition, 19100 is 1989, 21039 is 1992

Thinking my latest find is a BJ.

Another British maker bought the Bob Jackson brand - WOODRUP. If you search, you may find a thread here about Bob Jackson closing up and being bought by someone.

WOODRUP will still do the basic research on year made but they do charge a small fee.

The problem is I'm not sure this is a Bob Jackson. I hate the idea of paying POUNDS for something that might not be. Someone else suggested Harry Quinn.

I can confirm that Woodrup holds all the old Bob Jackson build sheets. Last year I contacted them about two BJ frames and they sent me digital copies of the sheets for each.

Cost is £25 for their work to dig through the records. When you make the purchase on their website include your serial number in the notes.

I think that there is no chance a serial # with 1 letter and 3 numbers after it will be a Bob Jackson. They made thousands of frames over many years and would need a much more complex and longer system. Many here must have a Bob Jackson they can tell us what serial number system is on their frame. Sometimes the serial number system is not how many were made from their beginning but rather when it is made. And this can be done in code. Either a letter or number will represent the month and again for the year it was made.

When I visited bob Jackson's shop in 1975 while I was apprenticing at nearby Ells Briggs, George Foster was the foreman builder and he had like 4 (+ -) young builders under his direction turning out a solid number of frames every week. Someone would do all of us a favor by identifying the serial number system builders used. That way if you see a frame with 6 numerals, it is easy to discard brands with a different numbering system.

Kevin Sayles, now a Classic Rendezvous member, worked for Bob Jackson back in the 70's and then became a builder at Woodrups and is now building under his own name. He would have an idea if your mystery frame was made by someone up north.
