Certini Road bike Shimano Ultegra 6500 Columbus tube

Picked up this nice Road bike for Ģ140 it has Columbus Genius tubing.
The chap i bought it from was a mobile bike mechanic so it's all up together and not used much
I understand these were made in italy? There seems to be a company selling bikes in the UK with the same name but think this bike predates their existence?
Seems to date from early 90s?
Does anyone know anything about these bikes?

I donīt know anything about Certini, but apparently Columbus Genius was top of the line for a while. It is supposed to be extremely light, but fairly fragile. What I can however say, is that the bike is most likely a bit later than you think. As I recall it, Mavic CXP were introduced in the mid nineties. And Iīm quite sure, that Shimano didnīt replace the 6400 series with 6500 untill around 1997-1998.
Considering that the bike looks to be in very nice condition, I think you got a VERY good deal. Enjoy.

That is a super sweet bike. If you want to feel a whole lot better swing by any bike store and see what 140 gets you nowadays.

Very nice. Frame alone is worth $200, and you have the nice matching fork to boot. It must be pretty light.

This says French made:

I don't know, but if you need a spare Italian threaded bottom bracket for those 6500 cranks, I've got one.

You got a real steal for 140$, the Genius tubing was top of the line concurrencing carbon, alloy and titanium framesets but wasn't recommended for too heavy riders. The Genius was introduced in 1991 and it was stopped to be produceed nearby 1998 -1999 when it was replaced by Columbus Nemo and Columbus Foco. Genius frames are now aftersought by collectors, this one will ride superbly. The last time I have seen a genius for sale from daccordi or another well reputated italian brand, it was nearby 700$-1500$ alone.

Indeed a steal if this is as it seems: a Columbus steel Genius frame/fork with Shimano Ultegra for the rock-bottom price of Ģ140?
I'd be thinking this mobile "mechanic" was more like a mobile thief! I won't tell...

as the post above says there was a shop in Saltash (Cornwall, for us in other countries) that sold these French-made frames either as bare sets or built up and the finish is customarily the same red as OP's. Years have been mentioned as both '95 and '97...

Even if it turns out to be a lower-grade tubing than Genius (nothing here to say it is, just looking for some gloom) it's still one crazy-good deal for your money!
