Fausto Coppi ID

Hi evrryone !

Came across a Fausto Coppi Bike (pictures on my gallery).

Is it a propper Coppi frame? Does anybody know the model/year?

Thanks in advance !

Afaik Centaur 9 speed is from 2002. Before that it was Daytona or Athena (I forgot), in 2003 it was 10 speed. The catalogs are available.

Centaur was a renaming of Daytona, which was available as both 9-speed and 10-speed in 2000 and 2001. The 2002 catalog shows Centaur available as both. The Veloce shifters would determine the number of gears. I think the ice gray front derailleur is later. I wouldn’t necessarily draw conclusions from the components though. This looks like a mismatched group all around. The early 2000’s dating does seem about right though.

It’s hard to say what constitutes a “proper” Coppi frame. Several companies had rights to the name over the years. The last that I’m aware of was Masciaghi, starting in the 1990’s and as juvela notes this is probably one of theirs. My steel Masciaghi-built Coppi has a decal saying that they built it, on the chainstay I think. There are other examples to be found on the Internet with these same graphics and paint on an aluminum frame like this, so I don’t see any reason to doubt it is legitimate.
