1982 Trek 613? with odd double Serial number
This bike has been listed locally for a while finally got curious and asked for a serial number. Provided some mystery and some clarity.
Listed as an '83 - 620
No idea what the letters and numbers in the area with no paint are? not a Trek Serial number, so what? when?
The actual serial number 029315 would make the bike a, '82 - 613 in 21"
Everything seems to line up with the '82 - 613, except for some replacement parts (105 derailleur) and red panel on headstock (catalogue says would be pewter)
https://www.vintage-trek.com/images/trek/Trek3.pdf
Anyone have a guess about the 2nd "serial number"?

A 620 would have a triple front chainset, so id say you are on the right track with it being a 613..
as far as the second number, im wondering if it was a registration number for bicycle security that cities used to try to combat theft ... maybe a zealous owner decide to punch it into the steel...

Punched in after the fact, hence the rust and missing paint.

Back in '70's Austin you had to register your bike.
You were issued a license plate that was strapped between the seat stays, and then they stamped THAT number on your bottom bracket.
Eventually a fireman got over zealous with the stamping and crushed an expensive bike's BB and the city had to pay.
The answer was to stamp the registration number on the handlebar stem!
That was so stupid that nobody would let them do it, and the city discontinued registration.
