Stumbled upon a spoke cleaner

Last night I was puttering around in the garage on some wheels with weird stubborn stains. While trying a few things, I decided to try some glass cooktop cleaner. This cleaned the rims quickly with very little elbow grease. There was no listing of ingredients but I suspect it is similar to Bar Keepers Friend. Then I decided to try it on the spokes which were equally nasty. I couldn't get a picture that really showed the difference, but it did well to remove the funk from the spokes as well. I don't think it would do anything to older galvanized spokes, but on these stainless steel spokes it didn't do a terrible job. I think some cold afternoon this winter, I may pull the wheels off and work on the spoke while watching some old westerns and see how it goes.

... while watching some old westerns.
With Araya rims, I would start with the original Magnificent Seven.

I use liquid Barkeepers friend and aluminum foil on slightly rusty zinc spokes and any thing chrome. It seems like a much gentler cleanup than using steel wool. Then I rub the spokes down with Never Dull wadding, which seems to keep the rust at bay. Bikes in service tend to get the occasional wd40 spray down, which also helps.

Looks good! Sometimes, you need a progression of products when a simple polish doesn't remove everything (e.g., Mothers). Looked this up and found the ingredients on their website.

Product Name: Glass Cook Top Cleaner & Polish
Product Code: 2CT, 38, 72, 100, 137
Ingredients/ CAS No./ Function
Water/ 7732-18-5/ Diluent
Mineral abrasive/ Withheld/ Abrasive
Surfactant blend/ Not available/ Cleaning agent
Dimethicone/ 63148-62-9/ Gloss
Bentonite/ Withheld/ Thickener
Plastic abrasive/ Withheld/ Abrasive
Disodium citrate/ 68-04-2/ Buffer
Xanthan gum /11138-66-2/ Thickener
Polyalkylene glycol/ 9003-11-6/ Cleaning agent
Sodium phosphate monobasic/ 7558-80-7/ Cleaning agent
Citric acid/ 77-92-9/ pH adjuster
Allyl heptanoate/ 142-19-8/ Fragrance
Quartz/ 14808-60-7/ Abrasive
Methylchloroisothiazolinone/ 26172-55-4/ Preservative
Methylisothiazolinone/ 2682-20-4/ Preservative

I'll leave actual evaluation to the chemists, but it looks primarily like a variety of abrasives in an acidic suspension along with surfactants (detergent) and something to make it smell pretty.
