Fanny's yer aunt, Bob Jackson's yer uncle: bike rescue again.

This time I took before pictures:

As it was loaded into my truck:

30 seconds after it was unloaded:

Nice semi-wraparound seat stay treatment.

First generation Phil Wood hubs:

Over BB cable routing, single water bottle bosses, rear spaced 120mm, and no chain hanger; I'm thinking very late 70's/very early 80's.

Wow, that's going to be a nice one!
How does such a nice bike end up with Bum bars?
Have fun with the overhaul.

Close to first gen Phil hubs, chrome, check, but after he went to straight barrels, the early ones had a small fillet at each flange. These were much faster to produce.

Suggest remove the Bottom bracket completely and examine the cup races (assuming traditional assembly) Jackson’s were notorious for having shells that were distorted requiring Campagnolo tools to chase and face.

good save. I found using a Phil was the save for mine.
in a conversation the next year with Bob Jackson as he was visiting dealers, he admitted “the lads” probably cranked the vise too tight on the lower half of the shell.
we discussed a new pair of bikes and he wrote on his card that he would supply an upgraded Roto investment cast shell for free.

I never ordered those, instead ordered a Masi sprint bike frame. Columbus PS tubing. Still have that.

LMAO. I probably would've had to do that before loading it into the car! Thank you for saving another Bob Jackson.

And I thought I was your Uncle. At least in the freewheel department.

Needs a nice Ultra spaced Suntour Perfect 6-speed.

Funny this should come up, and sorry to go off topic on the thread, but I just built up a Uniglide freehub with a 15-17-19-21-23-26-30 to try. Now back to that beautiful Bob Jackson content. It is in my size too. I keep an eye out for special bikes like this and would indeed jump on that one quickly too. Being old and slow, it is sport touring bikes for me and really nice ones like this don’t come up as often as sport bikes. Nice score.

My bad. Let me take a look at my Winner family to see if I can build a 13-26. Might need to wait until after Thanksgiving.

Fear not, it will end up with Paselas, like just about every other bike in the barn.

Stripped, cleaned, touched up, and waxed:

I had decided going in that the bike was too nice for the SunTour/Dia-Compe/Sugino comps on it and I had a bunch of these Italian bits in the proper sizes laying around gathering dust.....

Despite concerns there were no problems with the BB, although the NDS cup screwed in a little hard

More coming soon!

Just for my reference, how much do you usually charge for a shipped custom built freewheel like that?

As though someone decided to turn a bike into a barcalounger.

At least no permanent damage and a platform for something very nice. Well snagged!

My kid has a track teammate from Leeds. Lovely gal, quite posh. Just wanted to note that.

It depends on several factors. The first and most important is the condition of the sprockets. Second the brand and model. Third, the mechanical condition after the body has been serviced (which is normally perfect). Shipping is the easiest. I only use USPS Priority Mail and a small flat-rate box is $10.20 (currently). If you have specific needs for a freewheel, it's best to take the conversation to PM/email. Thank you for asking.

Getting the drivetrain squared away: NR crank and DRs....

driving a 13-26 Ultra 6 block, courtesy of pastorbobnlnh

BITD I would have cheaped out on the brakes, so I did here. The levers weren't at the top of the Modolo food chain, but the 919 hoods were solid

The calipers as well, but I tweaked the QR with some from a Dia Compe set:

The 6cm stem wasn't going to work for me, but I had this cockpit out in the barn;

I dug through the box of bottle cages out in the barn and found this period correct Avenir:

Last bits arrived yesterday, finish up Thursday

Looking very nice Top! How's the snow and ice cover in central Maine? Will it be clear enough by mid-April for a test ride?

The colorway of this bike is burgundy and black, hence the saddle, housing, hoods, and Benotto Cello tape to match the seat tube panels and head tube

I so badly wanted this old Cateye to work, but the speed readout gives random numbers with no connection to wheel speed:

And there she is, baby, gleaming in the sun!

Before:

And after:

Can't wait 'til Spring!

Handsome! Nice choice of skins, too.
I feel for those old computers, especially the more peculiar or less known. Drawer full of them. Don't know what works or not. Some of the bikes I've moved on, usually owners immediately remove and toss. No good at convincing them to give it a chance. Lol
