Need help identifying "old?" Bianchi
I hate to start a new thread, but....
I posted in the other thread, but it has gotten pushed down too far Traded for one of my precious Suntour Ultra-6 freewheels: One Bianchi frame, repainted Celeste, but appears to have always been Celeste after peeking inside. Serial number on headtube 4B xxxxx Long Campagnolo dropouts, with a cast notch on the rear of the NDS dropout. Never seen that on any bike. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8f4b7c5db0.jpg wierd notch, plus divers helmet in background with 4,5mm I.D. No braze ons AT ALL besides divers helmet. Bianchi styled headset, not built in but "rounded". https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a8ce4060c4.jpg Faux integrated headset Fork seems original, but crappy brazing on chromed faux Campagnolo dropouts https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e56547f852.jpg Seatpost 26.2mm I would like help to figure out what year / era to repaint and finish this build. I have a set of Campagnolo 3 bolt Sport cranks that would look great, along with chrome steel Valentino (?) derailleurs if this is early. I have smooth 5 bolt Campagnolo if its late Bianchi. |
Any marks on the headset?
I don't know Bianchi's, kind of a black hole to me but this frame does not look like high-end model. |
Thank you for the reply.

*many clues may be found by removing the fork. I'll do that tomorrow. |
Just checked this one for any Bianchi identifiation on the frame, none. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...743bc3f_4k.jpgPXL_20230127_132501638 on Flickr The only indications are the paint, which is original, and the stampings of numbers and letters. Oh and the obvious integrated head set which I think may be unique for late 60s and , '70 &71, maybe 72 Bianchi's. This one has been identified as a '71. I added the decals which were provided with the frame set. |

The number is on the seat tube lug.

Other than the color(s) and head badge sticker, what makes us think this is a Bianchi?

I would say the location and font of the serial number looks like some Bianchis. The fork crown is reminiscent of a Bianchi, but it doesn't match my other Bianchis, for what its worth. |

To me that head set screams Bianchi. Picked this one up a few years back. Sadly, too big for me and even more sadly, the original owner drilled holes in the top tube...

They had a distinctive cast seat lug, that included those bullet shaped stay ends as part of the seat tube top lug. |
Zeroing in on February 1974 Bianchi Rekord.

...I think (but am not 100% on it) that the seat stay attachment on that frame is exclusive to Bianchi of a certain era.
They had a distinctive cast seat lug, that included those bullet shaped stay ends as part of the seat tube top lug. Exactly. For the record, I was the person that gave to frame set to Reynolds 531 . The seat stay caps are very similar to both my '54 and '64 Bianchis. This frame was part of a husband/wife combo which included my '64 Bianchi, which was a second of the line "Team Issue," which was second only to the 999 serial Reparto Corse bikes of that era. It's definitely a Bianchi... What year and where in the pecking order is another question entirely.... Cool bike, regardless! |
