plastic roller on a soubitez dynamo

The plastic roller on my old Peugeot needs replacement, but I don't see how to remove it.
Any advice?

‘even if you can remove it, secure a replacement first. Way back Velox made a rubber “hat” that went over the roller. I would look at eBay or eBay.fr under Velox.

Hi, I have several replacements already on ebay. Even one on a abandoned bike near me.
The question is how to remove the plastic top roller.

I had no idea that people had these for sale! I might have to pick one up. My old Jos block dynamo could use a new one.....

to the OP, the Velox rubber cap on my dynamo just presses over the metal roller. I imagine this is true for all other bottle dynamos... but would be interested in learning about other types.

(with plans to retrofit LEDs into my dynamo, just for fun)

Mine has a plastic roller instead of metal. It has completely desintegrated. Only the top forming a T is left. Im afraid it cut open my tire up. I filed the edge a bit to try to keep from that sad end.
I can't post a picture yet. :-/

ok, in hand are an original generator of unknown to us the brand, of unknown to us condition, (later stated as quite troubled)
we would assume French in origin, but there were more than one brand even from France.
if there is no fastener visible at the top, then it is very likely a press fit over a spline, and will need to be extracted.
if the replacement wheels you have appear compatible to a press fit, try and pry it off.
from your description it is not useable now. Not much to lose.

Btw, the top is actually making contact with the wheel and spinning powering the lights. I'll wait until I secure a replacement top.
