The color doesn't look familiar to me, though. That is, it looks like a Raleigh blue, but not one of those used on these frames.

If those are Campagnolo dropouts you may well be right. In that case I would expect a serial number from late 1984 or 1985. Soody , what says the BB shell?
OTOH, Raleigh did build versions of these frames that are not catalogued, the "non-fixie's bike" mentioned above being an example.

Thank you for the additional pictures. The September '84 serial number and the Campagnolo dropouts would make it an early '85 MY Gran Course, I'd say.

Great info thank you. Yours is gorgeous. I wish i had that large size. This one won't fit me, so i'll try to find a rider, and spec it for them.

at first glance thought beastie's lug pattern might be the BOCAMA Competition 83, then when non-fixie posted that excellent crosstable saw that the only two patterns employed were Prugnat, the frame is certainly not 62 serie so it must be the S4 (oops, ins't that a secret locus within Area 51?)

You assume correctly. The serial number of the frame I was trying to identify has a "W" prefix.

It's still hanging from the rafters as a frameset, where it's been for the last 20 years. The paint on the top tube is a bit too rough for me to build it up as-is. I keep going back and forth about whether to keep its current color scheme, switch to the team colors, or just paint the top tube. If I happen to paint something else the same color red, I'll probably opt for the latter. Fork in the pic is not original.
