I HAVE THE FRAME FROM MY FIRST BIKE A flamboyant red schwinn stingray, when I was a kid I trashed the bike and turned it into a BMX bike, now at almost 60 I want to restore it .I have no photos of the bike ,I am trying to find out the year it was made so I can look for a parts donor bike ,the ser number starts with GD,the look up chart says 1968 but it was not made in red and I think I got the bike around 73,74 ? can anyone tell me the year ?thanks anyone have a red stingray for sale I need all parts from it other than frame ? ....

Also, consider the Fairlady similar to the Stingray as a parts bike. The parts are very close and much cheaper that way. People selling real Stingray parts want real money for them.

There were two red Schwinn "Sting-Ray style" frames in 1968 , Kool Red (Flamboyant Red) on Apple Krate ONLY, and "Red" on a 20 inch Typhoon.

My only guess is that you have a Typhoon, that is not actually Flamboyant Red. If you DO actually have a Flamboyant Red 1968 frame, break out the credit card because it will cost thousands to rebuild into an Apple Krate! (Which would be awesome)

what about locating one of the 1990s-era Stingray reproductions and then moving all the parts over? there's one for sale in my neighborhood for a few hundred dollars that I posted about on the "What's It worth?" forum.

Yes, the serial number can be used to date old Schwinn. I know what you mean about wanting to restore your first bike. My first bike was a 1966 Schwinn Sting Ray Fastback. Got it for my 9th birthday. Best present ever. And, I still have it. It's in original unrestored condition, except for a replacement rear tire.

I can not prove it but here is what it is looking like to me I think my parents bought a used 68 typhoon from the dealer that they took in trade and they turned it into a stingray look alike ,pig bike,,,I swore the chain guard said stingray maybe they put stingray decals on it ,it had the red banana seat ,and the tall v bars on it ,, all these years I thought I had a stingray...bummer I think I may have found a typhoon donor bike ,I will do what the dealer did ,use what I can from donor bike and put stingray bars ,seat and stickers on it .that will be be as close to what it was when I got it ,I think it will be cool just to look at it in the man cave and have it a bike again and not just a rusty frame ,
