Another Headscratcher
 

My good buddy just actually BOUGHT the frame you see in the pics below. The seller claimed it was his dad's Peugeot but no serial number plate on the BB (no rivet holes either)
.....or anywhere else for that matter. The headset stuff is Tange. I'll try to get a full pic of the frame from both sides. Please take a look and see if YOU can identify the manufacturer. All contribution/suggestions

lugs appear BOCAMA

fork evidently a replacement sporting Tange crown and ends; looks like it might be a Mangalloy model

headset appears asian so would expect a 25.4 steerer

still early enough that everything, save fork, should be of metric dimension rather than ISO

measure tube diameters and check headset and bottom bracket thread

I can't say I've ever seen seat stay ends like those on any Peugeot. I agree with Juvela that the fork is a replacement.

This is a Canadian made Peugeot PB 12 ("Course" of course), from around 1982/83.
The fork should be original, as they used Tange forks on this model:

Geeze. I can just ditto that.

Dang!, the back of that fork crown is the worst I've seen on any bike. What the heck were those Peugeot factory workers on when they built that fork??! It looks like a tank ran over that fork crown before they used it!:eek:

Maurice: Thank you so very much. So your solution jibes with the seller's story of it being his dad's bike as he's a Canadian and lives in Calgary
like me and my buddy who bought the frame. The last piece of the puzzle is the location of the serial number. Do you have any info on the location ??

UPDATE: OK, after more searching, we decided to remove that ugly purple non-stock cable guide from the BB. Guess what was underneath the guide ??
The shortest serial number I've ever seen. M202 with the M being poorly stamped. Check out the pic below, I guess the M could stand for December and the
first number 2 could stand for 1982 but could the following 02 be the sequential frame number ??

Agreed, Chombi1. I looked at that mess,too, and shook my head......although this whole bike has been terribly abused with what I believe was a 6 inch angle grinder with a VERY stiff wire cup brush. The scratches in the frame are 0.5mm deep in some places. Talk about "agressive paint removal" methods.:eek: :notamused:
