The unexpected purchase , the Basso Viper
Good Afternoon
There are times when accumulating rare frame is in obsession. It has been the case lately and the last two years. One of my favorite german sellers, had a very nice Basso Viper at my size for sale for a decent price which was for sale, I grabbed it immediately . I have testrode in the past a Basso Zer which was a fine and well made machine, this one if a steel frame 1855grams with a steel fork 669g , so a total weight of 2524grams, the yellow color is pleasing and it features lugs and fillet brazing which makes a nice bike. The equipment for it will be dura ace 7800, zipp 60, conti gp4 season 3t mutant ahead bar and stem.

Have a nice week everyone
Very best regards and stay safe

Nice! I saw a few of those at an Austrian site recently with other NOS old frames.
That would be so sweet built up with a nice C,F. Campagnolo groupset and Bora wheels.

but unfortunately given the number of headaches I have with the campy c record on my raleigh, I would rather stick to what sticks the best for me which is Shimano. The first generation of Bora were very fragile and barely reliable, even the 1st gen Mavic Cosmic Carbon with its fts rl better hubs dwarfed the Bora. As for Campgnolo Carbon fiber groups equipping my bikes, nope it won't ever happen plus the campy skeleton brakes on the rear aren't really double pivot brakes unlike the older generation and best performance for brake calipers for rim brakes was always Dura Ace. As for Zipp, they have have a special place in terms of wheels in my collection. Campagnolo where I am living is 25% to 30% more expensive than Shimano and spare parts far more difficult to find. I guess we all have our preferences, besides being a 100% Shimano guy, I am also a Mavic and Zipp user. Difference is what makes this hobby fun.

The head set on the basso was installed, I took the opportunity to install the Mavic seat post, saddle, brake calipers ,handle bar and stem. Also made a blank assembly with zipp wheels. The next step will be assembly in september with 1st gen Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheels, Dura Ace 7800 cassette, Dura Ace 7800 chain, Dura Ace 7800 rear derailleur, Dura Ace 7800 STI, carbon crank , look pp286 yellow pedals, yellow fluorescent bar tape and continental GP 4 seasons. The stem and the bar are the same ones than on my Trek 2300 project for rigidity and torsional stiffness
