Not sure how or why but the eBay shipping calculator is showing frame sized boxes shipping cross country for $40 or less by FedEx.

It just quoted me $37.78 to ship a box 38” x 24” x 8” weighing 15 lbs from Boise, ID to Boston.

Of course this would need to be combined with an eBay sale.

You know when they figure it out, they will pile drive you on it, right?

You have no recourse with efbay, they will dump it back on you and likely assess a penalty too, "you should have known better, brought it to our attention", etc, blah, blah, blah.

But I do hope it works out, those prices are from when I started here.

Don't know if it's a mistake or not, but I get a few "you have a shipping adjustment" notices from eBay every week with "corrections". Sometimes they say you overpaid by a few bucks, but mostly, they're slamming you for more shipping money. I had a large guitar box that was shipping for $20.00. I knew it was wrong and I did eventually see the notice that they were charging me more money.

If its too good to be true......

Do they let you back out when the shipping balloons?

I would not trust that quote , not for a minute. I like eBay for buying but selling is tricky . I always let the buyer arrange shipping . I don’t mind boxing something up , I made my own frame box for my Colnago when I shipped it to be painted . The last bike I sold I boxed it up and gave the weight and dimensions to the buyer . He used BikeFlights and sent me $ for the shipping materials ($25). As merziac said if eBay does anything for you they will bill you for it and it adds up quickly on top of the 13% fee.

A few weeks ago, I shipped a large oil painting with their quote of $60.00. A week later I got a “correction” with a $150.00 charge. I called ebay to complain and they said they put in a request with FedEx to review the case. Have not heard back yet.

No way in helz, locked in and a penalty for pulling the plug if you manage to pull it off.

Once they set the hook, you're done.

Pass the buck and call it a day, "we have no control over efed-ex, UPS, etc, its their call".

BS, the more they charge, the more they make, except us.

And the minimal boxing can bite you as well, no margins so the high points may not be well protected.

I have had 3 frames that were cut down boxed and done well, all three took a bounce on the lower HS cup and almost got the headtubes.

I always use a split tennis ball on both ends of the HT, SP clamp and RDO's in conjunction with blocking, BB's can take a hit too, best to protect them with something tough and or hard as well.

All I know is that a boxed up XL-sized bike is at least $200 via Bike Flights. I won a 27"/68.5cm Cannondale ST auction last year with the shipping set as $100 or something great. Seller got the actual shipping charge and canceled my sale. Framesets are still ok, but that's about the largest item I'll ever buy. I'm essentially local only for bike purchases.

For what it’s worth I did ship a frame with the package dimensions in the first post from Boise, Idaho to Long Island for $37.12.
