This is a true guessing situation. This is listed locally with only a single photo and the simple statement "vintage Atala bike frame". It's an estate sale and there's no way I can get there today. I emailed the seller and said if it doesn't sell I'd be interested. The tubular rims caught me eye.

Wondering what if anything can be offered to identify it? I seems that it has no bottle brazeons suggesting 70's (?). It does have a derailleur hanger and some nice enough lugs.

Any ideas?

Note that the two best models both use Columbus tubing and are differentiated by their parts. What I’d do is check the seatpost diameter. If it’s 27.2 or 27.0, you can be confident it’s a good frame.

I am gonna say Atala is second from top of the line. Probably early seventies. Had one with the same colors years ago.

The difference between top of the line and second, was, as I recall, the presence of a chrome plated seat tube lug. Even though I let the white and orange one go, I brought this Atala Professional home on another day. Great bikes, by the way...

Guessing cranks were an upgrade as well. Wondering if any other parts laying around there as well...

some manufacturers were fitting 3TTT Gran Prix stem & bar stock on new cycles as late as 1971-72 as they used up existing supplies

would expect cycle just late enough to have been fitted with a Campag NR gear ensemble

That photo is so ominous.

That drive side dropout looks to me suffered stress - like a caught derailleur in the spokes stress.

From what I can tell, the main difference between the "Competezione" and the "Record Pro" was mainly the component spec. The frames were the same except perhaps for some model specific labelling.

The Atala sale photo shows a chrome seat lug so likely a Professional as per the brochure link.

Seems I arrived too late.......

Pretty sure the only difference between the Record and the Competizione frames in the early '70s was that they masked off the seat lug on the Record, and may have painted the bands a different color. On mine, you can see the chrome under the spots where the paint on the seat lug have chipped off.
