Lotus Legend Compe
Here is a 1984 Lotus I just finished doing a resto mod on. In 1984 only the Legend Compe was built in Italy with Columbus sl tubes and all Campi drive train.
the paint was poor so I decideded to do a full repaint and upgrade the components to Shimano Ultegra. That included front and rear derailleurs and hollo tech cranks.
The rims are Mavic with Ultegra hubs and a 9 speed hyperglide cassette.
levers are Tectro ergo levers and the 9 speed bar end shifters are by Sunrace.
All up weight as shown is 23.5 lbs. Hope you all like it.

thank you for the before image
appears stock kitting was NGS with NR gear ensemble, be that correct?
did your research turn up the identity of the maker?

According to my research , while most Lotus bikes were made in japan this particular model was made in Italy for one year only. The reference picture is identical to this bike as received , though the paint on my bike was in bad shape. I was restoring another italian bike, a De Bernardi at the same time that had been converted to a single speed and thought the Campi gear would help it sell for a higher price. The Lotus, being primarily a japanese built make would not be as valuable in the vintage market.
Going to the Ultegra groupset was in my view an upgrade.

Edit: it was later Supremes that were Italianesque. Early were Tange, and starting 1983-4, they were Columbus, but made in Japan. After that were the Cinelli designed ones made in Italy.
that now makes sense based on my lusting after one.

Suspect serial number will suggest Miki or Maruishi Made.

Interesting that it doesn’t say they were made in Italy.
