Wing-nuts
Old people remember the old days when wing-nuts secured bike wheels. Some were quite elegant, elaborate. That was before the quick-release.
In Berkeley CA there's a recycler called Urban Ore where you can browse thru old windows, toilets, solid cherry doors, various architectural elements and even small hardware. Someone there began collecting the wing-nuts that showed up and put them in a small display case. Some were bike-related. The collection grew.
Time came that the workers there unionized. They called their local "WIng-Nuts" and associated themselves with the IWW, plenty lefty union. You can see their IWW Wobbly Wing-Nut patch on my picture page.
That wingnut collection needed a better home and now there is one; an actual WIng-Nuts Museum not far from Urban Ore. It's only open a few days a week but you can visit their web page anytime. I can't post the URL.
You might want to visit or even donate your spare parts.

This is a real surprise, especially for U.S.A. Hopefully, it will get more people into classic and vintage bikes. The Facebook group Classic 40's/50's racing cycles and period components has a file at their page with dozens, if not hundreds, of different club nuts.

I should have searched earlier for wing-nut discussions on this forum. Here's a dandy from 2010 with 88 mostly illustrated replies.
"For love of wing-nuts"
I'd post the URL to the discussion but can't do that.

For the love of WINGNUTS!
A bit hobbled by the "photobucket virus", but still lots of images.
