It's All About Performance?

My bike list should tell you what I think about modern road bikes, but I loved this video.

Dang, that brings me back. That video is 15 years old.

So, nearly C&V.

Nice to see some C&V references, such as Eddy. There's a reference to Lance too.... was this before his TdF wins were taken back?

The little touches, like the back-up singers/pumpers, are fun too.

Yeah, I think this was in 2009 (When Raleigh was still making top-notch carbon road bikes!) Yes, I was glad to see his reference to Eddy Mercyx. Especially since it was a totally favorable one. The "pumping squad" was brilliant. The woman on far left is in some of Robin's other videos. She is a sparkler. I also like how he tried to show the resultant fatigue from riding an aluminum frame.

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

Funny,.... as long as the red Bottecchia fixie hasn't been drewed.

But for me it has always been about the sweetness of keeping the rubber side down and the never-ending wonderment of rolling wheels.

Funny enough to watch twice.

And just to be clear, ... sometimes sweetness and wonderment are not enough to satisfy all of an old man's future expectations.

It's all about Performance, I pump my tires and oil my chain

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

With the bestest race bikes from every manufacturer topping $10-$12,000 (without a $5,000 wheelset) .... it is still Funny, even at a measly $5k.

Needs a new update for electronics and Strava, et al. And Tadej is the new Pack Boss.
ŋBoss? Self confident in white. Or Pink. Or Yellow. Or World Champ stripes.
Someone else pumps his tires and oils his chain.

Surf, maybe those 126 people know something you don't? You don't have to be miserable.

Maybe I'm opening a can-of-worms here, but what is it that you don't like about modern road bikes?

I started riding in about 1987 and while I still own some steel road bikes from that era for the nostalgia, my daily driver is a modern road bike that is better in every way as far as I'm concerned.

Performance? Man did you see that guy's stem? What a poserrrrrr.

Video seem ripe for a redo, except now with electronic shifting, disc brakes, wider tires, tubeless, aero wheels, etc. looking down at those still riding full mechanical rim brake road bikes with 23mm-25mm tires.

That and the fact that he doesn't appear to be wearing bibs!

Thanks for this one. I went looking for it yesterday after seeing the "Performance" video again and couldn't find it. it's better than the Portlandia bike content, I think.

As soon as I saw the title I knew what this post was going to be about. Interesting to think that the bike setting is telling audience about how modern they are will be considered vintage in a short amount of time.
