I have not had a problem with Oxalic Acid and chrome, and very happy with the results, but I have only done smaller parts and did not leave the items to soak for very long.

Not necessarily. Most Mercians are ordered to the rider's specifications (albeit sometimes by shops) and built start to finish by one builder, to this day. While not fully made-to-measure, they are not what most folks would consider production runs. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine in all the years since I bought it as a new frame.
