Law Miner (3speedslow) hit today and in critical condition
I'm putting this here because Law had many friends in the C&V community on Bike Forums. I just heard a local news report of a cyclist being hit in Jacksonville NC and when they read the name my jaw dropped. He is currently in critical condition. I txt'd his phone hoping some family might have it and can provide updates that I can relay here. He was recovering from another accident about 6 or 8 months ago if my memory is correct and commutes a lot in a busy traffic town that doesn't have good bike infrastructure. Please send positive thoughts and especially prayers his way.

thank you for sharing this terrible news
forum sure to send a tidal wave of healing & positive energy his way
easy for me to recall a great many lively discussion threads begun by him here on fascinating finds - always a poster of valuable contributions...
have as yet to complete me "processing" of the Ed Litton tragedy, a friend of fifty-three year and so greatly admired

Such a horrible situation: first Cyclespanner now 3speedslow . Hoping the healing energy can be felt by them both.

Saturday morning update, Law's status appears to be the same. Local 11:00 news last night had the same report and no mention (that I saw) on this morning's local news. Web link is the same as yesterday. I'm hoping no news is good news. Obviously no reply from the family if his phone was even recovered.

I often complain about how boring it is to ride in my area. But after hearing so many horrible reports like this I consider myself lucky. I might see two cars on a 40 mile ride, and since all the roads are straight I can see them miles away. I’ve never met Law but have done some deals with him, seems like a great guy and wish him a full recovery.

I'm really hoping he can keep going and recover. At about my same age, recovery can take a little longer.
Hoping he's stable and recovering as we speak, and that we'll be hearing from him soon.

This afternoon I called The Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune to see if I could get any status information. They didn't show Law as a patient, but because he would have come in via emergency maybe the check-in never happened? Maybe he was transferred or the news report hospital was wrong, so I called the civilian county hospital and hit the hippa dead end there. I called his phone where previously only had txt'ed and it went straight to voicemail.

He and I have had some heart-to-hearts, and I'm pretty sad and scared for him.

What is up with today's motorists? I now do a lot less cycling than I used to, and I select my routes and times/days of travel very carefully.
Personal opinion: Between cell phones, map displays, and those damnably, dangerously distracting touchscreen controls, I think too many motorists are multitasking, leaving less attention for pedestrians, cyclists, and even sometimes other motorists. Add frustration with congestion and general aggressiveness driven by "I'm late!" thinking.
EDIT: This was an all-too-common side entry collision. Expect to see a lot of more of those as the badvocates and traffic segregationists get their way, preventing us from positioning ourselves where we will not only be seen, but also be visually relevant to motorists.

Man! This is sad . To have someone injured doing what they love . The report suggests that the motorist was leaving a parking lot when he hit the cyclist . Something us roadies deal with on a regular basis in the city , whenever we pass parking lots .

I left Law an email, knowing he won't probably see it soon.
