Tommasini identification

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone here can help me identify a Tommasini frame I’ve recently picked up. It’s got a mix of classic Tommasini details, but a few things are throwing me off—especially the fork and the BB markings. Here’s what I know:

Frame Details:
  • Dropouts: Campagnolo with an X stamp
  • Brake Bridge: Cube-shaped
  • Front Mech Hanger: Braze-on type
  • Cable Routing:
    • Under-BB cable guide is welded on
    • Internal rear brake cable routing on the top tube — entry at the front low, exit at the rear high
  • Seat Tube:
    • 5 spiral threads in the lower section
  • Chain Stays:
    • 2 spiral threads
  • Seat Stays:
    • T-stamp with parallel lines
  • Bottom Bracket Shell:
    • Marked 76 and MR — possibly for Marmo Rosa?
Fork:
  • Aero-ish, flattened blades, unique style — can’t find any photos of this exact one online
  • T-stamped fork crown, with double-lined design
  • Very distinctive and doesn’t match typical Tommasini forks I’ve seen
Paint:
  • Not original, but I can see remnants of red and yellow paint on the inside of the tubes, possibly original Marmo Rosa?
Questions:
  1. Can anyone confirm the likely model and era of this frame? Based on the details I suspect mid-late 1980s.
  2. Has anyone seen a Tommasini fork like this before? Especially with this crown and blade shape?
  3. Does the MR BB marking indeed indicate Marmo Rosa, and could the paint traces support that?

Sounds like it’s made SLX with perhaps AIR fork.

late 80’s, yes.

Looks more like a Cinelli SCA crown than Air to me from these photos.

Thanks for your kind replies!

The closest I managed to dig up is a fork style used with the Velocista model. The double lined „T“ stamp on the crown is also a bit faded on one side, I mean the depth of the stamp seem like it has been worn away, but only on one side, which is very strange. I’m suspecting at this point, that the fork might be much older, than the frame itself. There is an imprint on the fork neck saying „52“ and something like „S.V. 971“… Maybe 1971? Very hard to read…
An email reaching out to the Tommasini company (info@) proved to be unsuccessful.

So the fork seems to be some kind of a generic Columbus SL/Cromor product sold to different manufacturers. I found multiple Italian brands (Basso, Rossi, Concorde…) having completed their builds with this exact model of fork.

Thanks for the clue, seagrade !

Could be Super Vitus 971, a French tubing that was used up to 1980 (or later) when SV 980 arrived.

French tubing on a branded Tommasini fork with Campagnolo front dropouts WHAT?!

Thanks for your input, getting more and more interesting…
