Cinelli Abomination addendum
This may have gotten lost in the fray.
Part 1
Frame, fork, HS and Campy BB came from a seller here, seemed like a good guy till I got the frame and chrome lugs were far worse than they looked in pics he sent that were pretty good it seemed.
"I told you it needed some TLC" he said, PayPal agreed with him so I got to pound sand, should have bailed right then and there.
It had braze ons added way before so was never going to be a "correct" build/rebuild.
The crabby Campy barcons were the first thing chosen, I had experimented and got some to work better with plastic washers and carbon paste inside.
Then I wanted red lever covers but they are near impossible to come by, a pair showed up here but I missed them so PlastiDip was employed over the jank blue ones and worked quite well.
Bars and stem could have been Cinelli, nah, Nitto 177 and ITM or similar 90 degree stem with some Clear? thick bar tape that reminded me of oldschool sports car steering wheels.
F+R derailleurs were to be original like but wanted 9 speed so long cage and had to find a braze on front, Tx to Robvolz and Mad Honk, wasn't sure about the FD playing nice with the crank but so far so good, I don't trust them so....
Standby for Part 2
The Abomination, sinkhole, 77 Cinelli SC

Bikes: Colnago (82, 85, 89, 90, 91, 96, 03), 85 Cinelli, 90 Rossin, 83 Alan, 82 Bianchi, 78 Fountain, 2 x Pinarello, Malvern Star (37), Hillman (70's), 80's Beretto Lo-Pro Track, 80's Kenevans Lo-Pro, Columbus Max (95), DeGrandi (80's) Track.
Your Cinelli looks good in this photo. I am interested in your derailleurs and how they work as 9 speed. The saddle appears to be a Cinelli Unicanitor which would be very nice but I can't place the seatpost? I must admit my fright at seatposts with holes as I have snapped a good old Campy post in the past. It looks interesting though. Your choice of bar end shifters is, to me, interesting and I see you have worked on their 'shiftability' - well done.
From your photo your Cinelli looks great and..... it's a Cinelli Supercorsa frame - a pinnacle frame from that era's many, many steel frames. Sorry to read that the chrome features are suffering the effects of time but you seem to have cleaned them up well.

The chrome was bad from being ridden on a trainer but it was far worse than the pics the seller sent.
The SP is a Nitor, oldschool that came on older Cinelli's, this one got drillium overkill along the way so it is just for display here although it is reported to have been ridden plenty like this.
I put a chrome piece inside and may try to find a tight fitting same to backstop it.
The derailleurs work ok and this won't be ridden much but it was an exercise in "interesting, unconventional" building.

Tx Gary, Jack at Franklin worked his magic, had them rechromed and turned out fine, I just never should have signed on but Jack bailed me out for very fair $$$, the seller and my poor judgement were the problem, I should have bailed but was in too deep.

I have never seen that particular Nittor seat post with a drillium treatment before. It does look great but, again, seat posts scare me. Having snapped a Campy aero post on a ride I know just how dangerous the remaining stump can be and coming off the back of your bike doesn't tickle. They fracture and snap without warning so it's very wise of you to insert the chromed tube.
I do love your bike and am a little jealous. It will be, and is a great bike to just drool over.
Oh yeah, love the saddle.

To me, a Cinelli Supercorsa is worth the effort and yours seems to be from the era when Cino Cinelli was the boss. The chrome work, from your close-up photo looks to be done very well as re-chroming can go quite wrong.

This was/is a fools errand and I went in knowing full well it was just that, I was glad to have many of the parts already on hand and that drove the build, just lucky they worked and managed to work together.
No real regrets except that I let myself get taken like I did but another classic has been saved so there's that.

That is a beauty! I have a real admiration for the seventies Cinelli , I’m afraid my Windsor Pro is as close as I will ever get to owning one. Sorry you had such a bad go with the previous owner , eBay can sometimes be a problem. I have only had one bad experience and eBay completely failed to do anything. Lately , the fees and add on charges have left a lot of us without such a great resource. I sold a couple bikes when I was downsizing my collection and finally decided it was best to just sell them cheap or give them away!
It looks like you now have a very nice bike to enjoy . Jack did a very nice job from what I can see. I had him do my Colnago a few years ago and not only does it look great , it holds up very well! I hope you have many happy miles to help you erase the the negative experience.

I think the nice thing about your Cinelli is that (like mine) it is from 1977, the last year of Cinelli before Colombo took the company over. By the way another interesting thing about 1977 frames it that they were gradually incorporating the braze ones. Mine only has the single bottle bosses and no brake cable guides. Yours has the top tube guides which fits with what I have seen previously. It was a transformative year!

Bikes: several Eddy Merz (ride like Eddy, braze like Jim!)
I think when his bike was repainted the 1st time (cycle arts maybe) they added the modern bits.
Example: Finding a proper pre-CPSC front D that bolted on vs clamped on was impossible. Didn't exist. Plus the extension changed.

It was from here, not efbay, and PayPal sided with the seller, my bad but the seller ended up being very uncool after refusing to come down on price or help make it right.

Agree on the transition, last of the old guard.
