Bikes: Some old ones and some new ones

Whoa. The Breezer and Cunningham bikes are very cool. Never knew about either of them, though I am somewhat familiar with the builders. Keep 'em coming!

Bikes: You had me at rusty and Italian!!

Lavish paint schemes seemed to be a thing this year. A couple of neat car/bike combos too.

Since the early 1990s, I'd always wanted a Retrotec. But I always found more practical things upon which to apply my usually-meager funds, including a bunch of less-distinguished albeit useful cruisers. But there's still that little voice in the recesses of my crash-addled brain saying "now that you're no longer living under such tight fiscal constraints, maybe you should splurge on one?" But my other little voice's response is "but would this be fair to all the other hard-working cruisers I own?"

Still an amazingly cool bike. And a Retrotec. I repeat myself.

Original owner of 1991 SuperCaliber, muchly original. And still used, periodically.

I went today, mostly to see a couple old friends.

Darn it, I would have liked to meet Stephen Bilenky and Tom Reingold. I’ve met Gary Fisher previously.

A couple photos of shiny bike parts:

I hear you. I reach for one of small stable at least 90% of the time in favor over some other top-drawer rides. In my experience, the "neglected" ones do not complain and still answer the call when I ask them to come out and play. So go for it.

I do make sure to tell the others what good bikes they are and give them loving pats on the saddle or handlebars. You might want to adopt that strategy when you get your Retrotec (he says in his best enabler tones).

Putting me in the same sentence as Bilenky makes it sounds like I'm noteworthy. But thank you, and I'm sorry I missed you. I stayed for another day in Portland and just hung out and rested. It's a fun city! There is a lot of whimsy and humor, and of course, cycling.

You came from farther than he did so.......

It was good to meet you, glad you had fun.

You were one of the first here that I looked forward to seeing what you had to say as we rolled on down the road, path, trail, etc.

I met Joe Breeze at the Marin MTB museum. No event or anything, he is a volunteer there and talks to people all day. He is so nice, no pretension at all. Some amazing bikes in there, like 50 that can be called "the first" of this or that.

We're very lucky when somebody like Joe steps up to keep these sort of things alive, especially when they had so much to do with it, truly keepers of the flame.

Glad to see he still enjoys some local suds...the "Nudy" Western Wear look is news to me, too but the h-bar mustache remains...
