ordering stuff from Europe...

Ah crap, I get Michelin World Tours from Britain.

I see New Zealand post announced they were suspending sending any parcels to the US .
Wont particularly bother you guys on that side of the world , but not great for businesses here in NZ supplying the US market . Its a strange world out there . Take care everyone . |
Intrsting... I e-bayed a Shimano crankset on 8/12, seller based in Hong Kong.
Got USPS tracking later that day from Richmond TX with a suggested delivery date of 8/20. Next scan was 8/19 out of the Louisville KY distribution center, the last scan... so far. 8/20 came and went. Late Friday I initiated a return on eBay as item remained undelivered, seller kindly set up a refund. As of today (6 AM CDT 8/24) there's no change in shipped item's status so maybe it got caught up in this USPS dragnet operation too? |
I received this email from eBay Canada yesterday. I’ve changed all of my eBay for sale items to remove Postal shipping to USA and switched to UPS. For many smaller items, I simply removed shipping to USA as an option. Sigh.

Great. I just purchased an NOS 3TTT drop handlebar on eBay. It supposedly will be shipped to me in the US coming from Spain on Aug 25. We’ll see what happens…..

I'm so glad those greedy countries have stopped ripping us off and are finally paying us their fair share!! When my tariff rebate check arrives I'm gonna buy something patriotic, one of those four-door four-ton pickups.

There goes my eBay France purchases.

That's a good development for the used Schwinn, Columbia, and Murray markets.

I looked into shipping a frame to Toronto a couple months ago and Bikeflights added "duties, taxes & fees" of over $100. I suspect they were adding a brokerage fee to cover the risk that the tariffs would change between the time I bought the shipping label and the time the package reached the border.

My Loyds decals were lost in the post -- my own fault. Now I must reorder. Will a letter size package be held up?

As I remember Goodyear used to make bicycle tiers made in the USA. I dont know if thats still true. I have had no problems getting tiers through Amazon...

I'm likely going to Copenhagen in a month, I wonder how much I can bring back in my luggage.

Those of us employed in the manufacturing sector (along with our business partners in the unions) have been dealing with trade issues for many years now. There are hidden taxes, regulatory fees, etc. that occur on products made in the USA whenever we export those products. The so-called "free trade" has been exploitative for years, and we've been getting nothing but the short end from our so-called trade partners.
EU imposes not only duties but also onerous "environmental" regulations / taxes / fees based on fake science. PRC does many of the same things - and if we decide we want to make stuff there to get around the tariffs they impose, then they insist we "partner" with a CCP-front company who then takes our IP and everything else after a time, leaving us with nothing. Japan's policies have ensured one-way trade for years. And with regard to Canada and Mexico - that statement that Ross Perot made about a "giant sucking sound" was 100% correct. All anybody needs to do is visit Monterrey, MX (as I have) and what happened becomes very clear. When factories close, American workers are told (usually by their cultural "betters" in the tech sector, C-suites and in media) that they should "learn to code". After the dust settles, the stuff we used to get from Temu, Alibaba, eBay.fr and eBay.it will still be there, but we're going to be paying significantly more for it. De Minimis exemptions are gone forever, they are an ex-parrot and have ceased to be. If you're not happy paying $100+ USD for your FMB sew-up tires, perhaps you should learn to make them yourself - or purchase fewer of them from USA-based retailers that could actually benefit from the trade. Before anyone responds in cliched, knee-jerk fashion - no, I am not a Republican or a "conservative" (whatever that is). |

I'm trying to work out a return, maybe get a return label issued as I'd purchased and identical item (on eBay, from a US based seller) that also looks to be arriving today via FedEx. Suggestions welcome. Seller did what they were supposed to but shouldn't have to eat the loss of item due to USPS delay. |

My Hloyd decals just came in, they used a 5x8 stiff backing envelope and arrived in 4 days. (4 days has to be some kind of record) ;) I paid roughly $6 for shipping. What do you mean 'lost in post'? |
Lost in post means that the method of payment that I used has an address (my son's) that I used for receiving gifts for my wife. That address is no longer valid. The decals may or may not have ever arrived. There is no way to tell and loyds let me know that they were not returned to them. No hurry really as I have 3 coats of paint yet to brush on and weeks to dry before the decals are applied.

From the Guardian article:
"European postal services said they would continue to ship letters and parcels sent by individuals containing gifts worth less than €100, but warned that these would be subject to extra checks to prevent the service being used for commercial goods." Keep it small, people! |
The end result of all the tariff madness is that we will only be allowed to buy imported goods through the big established middlemen like Amazon and Walmart. We will now longer be able to buy anything directly from overseas as individuals. How dare you try to skip the middlemen?
