Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this

Trek cable stop question

What’s going on with the downtube cable stops on this 79 510? I emailed the seller for better pics. I thought this had clamp on stops, it’s either brazed on stops or magic.

I just got a better pic, they’re braze on stops. Is this a normal thing on these?

Bikes: 1962 Rudge Sports, 1971 Raleigh Super Course, 1971 Raleigh Pro Track, 1974 Raleigh International, 1975 Viscount Fixie, 1982 McLean, 1996 Lemond (Ti), 2002 Burley Zydeco tandem

The presence of these stops shows that the maker assumed the bike would have bar-end or stem-mounted shifters, i,e. not mounted on the down tube.

Bikes: ‘85 Trek 760, ‘77/‘78 Trek 304, ‘74 Raleigh International

My ‘84 760 has an extra braze on front derailleur mount, JohnDThompson confirmed as an available option.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

As brian3069 notes, these were an added-cost option at the time.

The Vintage Trek site has a "Price Lists" section- braze on cable guides and stops were $3.00 a pop.

Yep, a guy I worked with ordered them for his new 510 frameset. Years later I had a local guy add them to my own used 510.
