1980 Univega Viva Sport Spec

I recently posted asking for help identifying the model year of my Univega Viva Sport. Based on the comments from that post, I believe it to be from 1980. However, I’m still left with a few questions as I try to figure out the original specification of the bike.

I’ve begun comparing the parts on my bike to the spec listed in the catalog from 1980 (found at univegacatalogs(dot)wordpress(dot)com). The image of the page with Viva Sport specs doesn’t show what each part is, just the part name. Are my attributions correct (e.g. catalog shows “VIVA SPORT—10 SPEEDS” and I attributed “Name”)?

Name (?) VIVA SPORT—10 SPEEDS
Frame Sizes & Colors Men’s: 19 1/2”, 21”, 23”, 25” Mixte: 19 1/2” Brilliant Blue, Desert Tan or Scarlet Pearl
Frame Hi Tension 1024 Butted Steel Tubing—Fully Lugged with Spoon Type Stay Ends
Fork (?) Hi Tension 1024 Tubular Painted
Headset TANGE—MA60
Stem Sakae Alloy—Allen Bolt
Handlebars (?) Racing Bend—Steel
Brakes (?) Dia-Compe—Side Pull with Extension Levers
Rear Derailleur, Shifters, and Freewheel (?) SUNTOUR V.G.T. Luxe with Down Tube Shifter, 14-32 Cluster
Front Derailleur (?) Shimano QA200 Uniglide
Crankset S.R. Silstar Alloy Cotterless Crank 40-52 Alloy Chainwheel & Guard
Handelbar Tape (?) KKT Racing Tape with Reflector
Hubs (?) SUNSHINE—Alloy Small Flange, Quick Release Front
Rims (?) ARAYA Light Alloy Anodized 27 x 1 1/8” Narrow Type
Tires Univega Gran Sport 27 x 1 1/8” H.P. 90 Lbs.
Saddle Univega Touring—Padded
Weight 27 1/2 Lbs.

Also, some things aren’t matching up to the parts on the bike. I know factories sometimes would use parts that are comparable to the specified one if they ran out of the original, and that people replace parts. I’d be curious to know which parts seem like factory substitutes and which were more likely additions by later buyers.

1. (Name (?) VIVA SPORT—10 SPEEDS) Catalog says it’s 10-speed, mine is a WC SunTour Perfect 14-32t 12-speed (2 up front, 6 in the rear). It is a 14-32t freewheel though, which is specified later on.
2. (Fork (?) Hi Tension 1024 Tubular Painted) Is this the fork? If so, what does it mean for it to be tubular?
3. (Handlebars (?) Racing Bend—Steel) My bars say “SAKAE CUSTOM JAPAN” and “SR ROAD CHAMPION” on them. So maybe the factory was just specifying the shape, and mine happened to be the ones they used?
4. (Brakes (?) Dia-Compe—Side Pull with Extension Levers) Does “Extension Levers” refer to the levers you can use while in the tops? If so, mine don’t have that. They’re regular levers that say “CANE CREEK” on the grips and “DIA-COMPE” on the levers.
5. (Rear Derailleur, Shifters, and Freewheel (?) SUNTOUR V.G.T. Luxe with Down Tube Shifter, 14-32 Cluster) Do they normally group all these things together?
6. (Front Derailleur (?) Shimano QA200 Uniglide) Not really sure what this is, or why it’s not listed with the previous item since they grouped the rest of the drivetrain together, assuming it is the front derailleur.
7. (Handlebar Tape (?) KKT Racing Tape with Reflector) Seems like bar tape, but what does “reflector” refer to? I do not have that bar tape, unsurprisingly, and my reflectors are Cat Eye RR-250-WZ.
8. (Hubs (?) SUNSHINE—Alloy Small Flange, Quick Release Front) Does the word “front” indicate that this would be only the front hub, or that only the front hub would have a quick release lever? Currently, it is only the front hub, which has markings saying “SUNSHINE” and “05345 s”. The rear hub is marked “WHEELMASTER”.
9. (Rims (?) ARAYA Light Alloy Anodized 27 x 1 1/8” Narrow Type) The current front rim says “ARAYA” and “27X1 1/4 W/O JAPAN” on it. Slightly different. The rear rim has the following markings: “RM19 27 x 1 1/4 x 28c/35c ETRTO 630X19”, “Weinmann”, “Aluminum Alloy”, “SAFETY LINE”, “SUBJECT TO WEAR”, and “M”. I assume it’s a replacement, especially since the front rim, which seems much older and similar to the original spec, has very rusty spokes.

Thanks!

Just on the quick for you.

Mixie is a type of step through frame, sometime called women’s bike.

the fork is not solid, but of tube metal

shifters and rear derailer are original, the front derailer is not original.

the handle bars are original

The diacomp brakes are side pull calipers with dual pull levers, the lever hood are replaced.

the kkt is probably the pedals, with reflectors installed

your front wheel is original, the back is a replacement
