Schwalbe
Got an email.this morning saying Schwalbe has a new valve. A cross between Schrader, Presta, and Dunlop. Or a valve that any pump will fit onto anyway.

|
Thanks. I was reading it in Spanish and missed that detail.

The Clik Valve is produced by the Italian specialist valve manufacturing company Record S.p.A. |
As far as I understand, its not a valve which any pump will fit onto, since i consists of the new valve (which can replace the valves in dunlop and Schräder tubes) and their new pump or conversion kit to existing pumps. But if a presta valve is changed to this, the normal presta pump can be used as before without accessories, but then there is no click function.

Yes probably many of us has such a Schrader / Preta head, which works with the existing and the Click. Basically fhe aim with the click, is that you dont have to unscrew anything - which also involves sometims unscrewing the valve itself. Just pop the pump on, if its a click pump / head, you are done, start pumping, if its a presta, then tighten with the arm, if yours doesnt have arm, then you still have to hold it with hand. The idea itself is not bad, but revolitionary ideas from 1 manufacturer most of the times just add +1 to existing standards, unless they are so revolutionary that everybody immediately wants to use them, kind of forcing other manufacturers to license it.

I'm close to convincing myself to make the conversion after learning:

You could buy a new Schwalbe tube with the Clic valve or if you have a Presta tube with a removable valve core, it can be remove to replace it with a Clic core. It looks like a neat system. There have been a bunch of online reviews and most have been favorable. So, much so that it had been hard to buy Clic products. That has gotten better lately. I will be happy to replace my Presta valves and give this a try. Presta aren't terrible but they are not terrific either.

In my 68 years of using presta valves the only problem I can remember is a removable valve core that wasn't sufficiently tightened. I like Schwalbe MTB tires and I assume they put enough thought into this valve that it's a decent product, but it's certainly not something I've been clamoring for!

I like it. Not having to loosen and (sometimes forgetting to) tighten the Presta valve is a good thing. Especially for us commuters who have to get out the door in a hurry.
The other good thing is being able to check the tire pressure without losing 5-10psi in the process. |
