The Suntour Cyclone GT derailleur I had been planning to use in an upcoming build turns out to be minus its mounting bolt. Having been unable to find just a replacement bolt, I just checked the well-known auction site with an eye toward buying a complete derailleur. It is hard for me to believe that a Cyclone in good condition now sells for as much or more than a Nuovo Record, yet such is the case.

Maybe it's time for me to take up pickleball.

What. You don't have a bin of them in your basement?

Strangely enough, it's the front derailleur I have a hard time tracking down in decent condition for a good price.

Cyclone should have always been worth more than contemporaneous Campy.

Why do people have a problem saying eBay?

There's so many ******y companies with ******y polices and ultra-champion chad level ****** CEOs... those are all fine- but yet to put the effort into not typing out "eBay?"

I think, and am not a recognized expert on this, that Campagnolo has the pedigree and SunTour has a cult following. Even with that, the post slant-parallelogram patent era Shimano were also very good and you would think that people would consider this later Shimano to be a suitable substitute, however, there are many, me included, that just like SunTour.

Paying big $$ is another story. We of course are talking pre-indexing period.

I think many here have been disappointed by it, some believe greatly so, probably not without merit and I suspect that as a seller when they ignored a change that impacted them greatly for not fully understanding it or somesuch.

Its always been ok for me but I only dabble.

Many folks went all in and found out how hard it can be to make a living at the hands of the monstrosity it came to be, more often no mercy for the sellers with the company calling all the shots, no recourse, no backstop, no help.

As someone that regularly sells on ebay, a nicer Suntour Vx or higher will bring as much, or often more, than a Campagnolo Nuovo Record RD. Cyclone G1 GT, yes, it sells for more.

Hey, c'mon-- it's winter in Vermont, and since I can't ride except on my stationary bike, I'm always on the lookout for additional training opportunities. It's a lot more effortful to type "the well-known auction site" than it is to type "eBay." And see? I just did it.

But really, you're right. It was kind of dumb, and not sure why I did it--probably just because I have seen others do so and I am at heart a conformist. I've never had a bad experience as an Ebay buyer, although I did get royally screwed in my one venture as a seller, so won't be doing that again.

Cyclone's wider range accommodates today's gearing preferences better than the Campy.

S'why I swapped a NR for a VG luxe... just sayin'... hills need more teeth that flatlandia....

My experiences parallel yours Jon. And I started with eBay over two decades ago.

I thought my first go at selling was a fluke, the second proved the first had set a pattern.

i wouldn't say "I have lived too long", but i find myself muttering "I'm too old for that sh..." quite a lot lately

Sorry Jon, it's not you, or just you... It's something I really, genuinely don't understand and it really sounds silly to me. ESPECIALLY when there's so many other businesses that are far more deserving of the Voldemort treatment that don't get it.

This should be something someone can fabricate or kluge together from readily available bicycle and hardware store parts.

Wasn't anything personal about it in my two attempts. It was the blatant scammers behind the 'offers to buy' that I took offense with.

I'd thought eBay policed their platform a little more carefully with regard to genuine, bona fide offers to buy as opposed to " I can send you $XXX now 'cause my cousin's girl friend needs a new laptop TOMORROW, OK?" I immediately dismissed.

That stack of multiple spring ('Belleville') washers on that right one considered normal practice?

Seems odd to me... I've always thought a single one was enough for the purpose, unless of course there's some discrepancy in dimensions needing shimming, not just tension....

Yes, I think so, too. It may not be right, but it will probably be close to right.
