V-day gets and finds.

We take most holidays pretty seriously, especially if gifts can be involved, good subterfuge for spending and buying when we probably shouldn't.

Got several things I wanted.

Again with the shoes, coolest ever IMO, grips, cable ends, goodies, etc.

Valentine’s Day aka the annual “I definitely needed this” shopping pass lol. Those shoes look dangerous for the wallet.

Bikes: Numerous

This was a few years ago. I found this on CL for $500 and had thoughts of flipping it. My wife saw it when I brought it home. She liked it so I gave it to her for a Valentine’s gift.

Yesterday, big sale at the local running store, so she got some new running shoes and I got some tights. We rode bikes there though!

I'm loving those shoes, have a couple similar but sadly way too small for me. My V-Day find hasn't arrived yet, a c. 1990 Cyclops frameset in my size.

Bikes: 2024 A Homer Hilsen, 1992 Paramount PDG Series, 1991 Mercian King of Mercia, 1987 Mercian Pro, 1985 Shogun 500, 1969? Falcon San Remo, 1972 Peugeot PX-10, 1972 Schwinn Paramount P13-9, 1971 Peugeot PX-10, 1970 Raleigh Pro Mk I

I woke up after Mrs. ascherer had left for a session of printmaking. I found a heartwarming card leaning against the coffee grinder. I had an appointment to drive a half hour north to collect a pair of Ultegra bar-end shifters and chain from a fellow on FB Marketplace. I scoped out a cafe in that town for a second cup of coffee and hoped I would find something in town for flowers or a suitable gift. Inside, a woman was making exquisite custom floral arrangements and we collaborated to create this, which was more than appreciated by my honey:

Bikes: 1967 Paramount; 1982-ish Ron Cooper; 1978 Eisentraut "A"; two mid-1960s Cinelli Speciale Corsas; and others in various stages of non-rideability.

She got a box of See's candy in a heart-shaped box. I got a very sweet card. We both got each other. Oh, and I got in a ride. We were/are both very happy with our respective hauls.

On valentines’ morning I went to the cash register with an arm full of fancy cheeses. The girl at the register said “no flowers today?” I said “no.. the way to my woman’s heart is with cheese.” The girl at the register laughed and the older lady in line behind me did too.

So very wonderful to hear you all had nice days with your other halves

Since I'm divorced and single, I no longer have to participate in Nation Psycho-Sexual Extortion Day. (Nor will I ever again. If I ever end up 'in a relationship', Valentine's Day will be right at the top of the 'Things I Refuse To to Do, So You'd Better Know Now' list. (Hey, the distaffs get to have such lists, so so can we. Equality, neh?))

So stipulated, I did go to the co-op yesterday.

36h 95mm OLD 'Schwinn Approved' Normandy front hub:

100mm Kalloy dirt drop stem and Scott AT-2 LF bars. (The bars will probably not get used on the 1950 Kestrel, but they'd work on it, they're pretty cool on their own, and they were 5 bucks, so why not.)

* If you want your S/O to stop pretending that V/D is actually important, start complaing when she doesn't get you flowers. Turns out that it's not fun anymore if it's reciprocal.

Well, as stated we go loosely with the mutually assured destruction model, at the flowery level I always get em for her and I get my favorite iced sugar cookies, win, win, all in good fun.
